Triangle - Surprisingly Thrilling Sci-fi Masterpiece.

For a long time now while browsing through different science fiction movies I have occasionally come across one called Triangle that I have always avoided for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on.

Something about it just seemed like a turn off somehow. I think it was because I imagined it was about the Bermuda Triangle, which it actually isn't, and I just got tired of seeing that kind of thing.

The other day I was looking for a good horror flick and I noticed that the theme to Triangle seems to fit both Science Fiction and Horror.

I thought Hey, why not finally check this movie out after all?

That's what I did.

So without further ado, here's my review of Triangle.

It will twist you and terrify you over and over!

Triangle.

Fear comes in waves.

Honestly the tagline is a bit much. Does it twist you and terrify you over and over again? Maybe not.

However, it's a pretty good movie.

The main character in Triangle is a young woman named Melissa George. I didn't recognize her from any other movie, but I will say that she's quite attractive and that always helps when it comes to movies like this.

There was only one other actor that I actually did recognize and his name is Liam Hemsworth.

He was in The Hunger Games and a couple of other movies. However, if you're going into this movie looking for faces that you might recognize then you might be disappointed.

The name Triangle makes me think about the Bermuda Triangle, especially the fact that this movie appears to be based on the water.

Despite all of that though.... this has nothing to do with the Bermuda Triangle. In fact, it has nothing to do with triangles at all.

Triangle is a movie about a group of people that decide to go on a trip on a small boat deep into the ocean to take a small vacation of sorts.

I think there are something like six people. There are several men and several women and at the beginning we are told that the captain of the boat is trying to be set up with a woman by one of the other crew members.

He doesn't have any interest in anyone except for the character played by Melissa George though. The character played by Melissa George has an autistic son which takes up most of her time, and seems to be a very troubled woman aside from that.

Before getting onto the boat, it seems as though she doesn't even really remember if her son went to school that day or not. It's a Saturday and one of the guys says well there's no school on Saturday though but it turns out her son's special school does have classes on Saturday so the viewer is left wondering if her son is really at school or something has happened to him.

Therefore we are immediately wondering if this woman is sort of an unreliable source. Of course this feeling gets worse and worse as things progress. On the boat she has a strange dream in which she awakens on a beach.

Shortly after that the boat capsizes and the crew finds itself standing on the bottom of the boat using it as a sort of raft and waiting to get rescued.

Fortunately for them a giant ship comes sailing by.

That ship is called the Aeolus.

Everyone boards the ship but immediately finds that there is nobody actually on the ship. This is strange because they were all quite certain that they noticed someone on the ship before they boarded it.

Almost immediately upon entering the ship two of our party members find a room with a mirror in it that has the words go to the theater written in blood across it.

It's pretty much at this point that people start dying. People are getting shot, they have holes in their heads, there's a lot of blood and gore. If you don't like movies that have a lot of blood and gore then you should stop watching this movie and go on to something else.

The question at this point is whether or not the person killing the people on the ship is someone that was already on the ship or if it is one of the six people that were on the small boat originally.

You might be wondering if the ship actually exists at all. It's at this point that we start to wonder if all of the characters have all of their marbles.

The question essentially becomes who is killing who and why?

The answer to that question is really difficult to explain without spoiling the movie. I'm not going to spoil the movie though, but I will tell you that one of the characters appears to have multiple copies of themselves for reasons that are not easily explained.

The ship that appears out of nowhere doesn't seem to be something that should exist in the first place. The people that enter that ship which is completely abandoned have to think to themselves that something weird is really going on.

Multiple copies of someone that appears to be a murderer for one reason or another.

The final oddity is some sort of time warp effect.

When people get killed time sort of reverses itself.

The reality is that the murderer has a real reason for doing what they're doing. Our crew members from the original small boat have a real reason for trying to stay alive as well.

Everyone has a reason for what they're doing, but nobody has a reason for what's going on with time and what's going on with the multiple people copies.

Triangle is an incredibly strange movie but it is also incredibly cool. If you are looking for a science fiction movie that will satisfy your desire for things like horror and gore, time travel, and action and excitement then you don't really need to look further than Triangle.

It's an incredible movie.
