Plagiarism exists

Yes, unfortunately there is plagiarized content on the platform. In this post I have outlined how I think we can take care of it, how we should approach the people who do it, and try to educate them to do better.

Does it work

I like to think so. Many cases have been reported and taken care of. Most people are willing to chance their ways, start creating their own content, contact me to take a look. These cases show there is hope for the future. Sometimes people are not that cooperative, they do not reply to the comment that has been left on their plagiarized post, or only contact me after rewards have been removed. When people see they earn less, they realize they have to change their ways.

One person contacted me right away, after I left a comment on his post, but was way more interested in finding out how I discovered his fraud than hear about how he should handle content from another website. That was a new experience.

Different kind of Fraud

Identity theft. We can't check identities correctly, but when someone claims to be a famous photographer, we become a little suspicious. Especially when that photographer is a very busy man, who hasn't had time to update his messages on social media platforms he is already a member of. In those cases we do try to verify the identity. When asked in a comment the member claimed to be the photographer himself. But we did not get any reply on the other social media platforms nor a reply to the emails we sent through his website.

Hit where it hurts

There is only one place where it hurts, post payout. This is usually done by contacting the curators. A time consuming task. To be on top of the game, this has to change.

New Approach

To make it easier to handle plagiarized content, I have brought together a team of people, let's call them my Ghostbusters. Together we will check reported trouble and take action if needed. The guidelines for these actions are still the same as mentioned in my above mentioned post, but I want to take it one step further. I need your help.

Remove your rewards

As said, contacting every curator is time consuming, instead we are going to post a report like this one, and when needed it will include information on an account we want to remove the rewards from. We don't know If this works, or even if this is the way the community want things to be handled, but we are willing to try. Let us know in a comment how you feel about the taken action. • The photographer who most likely is not the person he claims to be. This means someone is earning whalestake from using someone else's work.
