With the successful deployment of Version 4 came some big changes to the user experience. To help guide you through these changes we have put together a series of posts that will explain in detail how each of the features works.

If you missed the previous posts you can find them with these links: Interests, Tipping.

In this update we will explain how to post content to different Audiences on the platform.

A Social Sharing Friends Network

We have designed the platform to work differently from others that have come before it. More than a social media platform and more than just a group forum, Whaleshares was designed to be a Social Sharing Friends Network. We want our users to come together in communities of common interests and share what is exciting and important to those within their networks. Photos, videos, poems, status updates, messages, helpful how-to guides, recipes, memes, or whatever else you want to share… this is YOUR place to share it with others.

Creating Your Friends Network

Putting together a more intimate group of people you trust and share interests with is the foundation of a solid social network. Sharing content with people you know will value and appreciate it makes the experience that much better.

The ability to request and approve direct “Friend” relationships on the platform provides you with the option to limit certain interactions with your content. Gone are the days of unsolicited bot comments, spam, and trolling of your content.

Don’t be shy, reach out to others and establish new friendships.

Join Pods That Share Your Interests

Pods take Social Sharing one step further. These are organized “members only” groups created by people who want to build larger communities of users around specific topics, or Interests. Pods are a great way to get to know new people, participate in private contests and group sponsored events, as well as find support for the content you share.

Choosing Your “Post To” Audience

When creating and sharing content you have the ability to choose which group of people you want to target on the platform. This helps protect your content by limiting interactions like commenting to only the people in the selected audience.

Posting to Friends
Simply select “Friends” from the Post Destination drop down option list.

Any Users who have not been approved as a Friend will still be able to view and Tip, but not comment on the Post.

This ensures that the integrity of the discussion is maintained by only allowing Users in your network to engage in conversations on your Posts.

Posting to Pods
Once you have become an approved member of a Pod, or multiple Pods, you will have the option to post content specifically to the Pod(s). Doing so will place the post into the appropriate content feed of the selected Pod making it visible to other Members. Only Pod Members will be able to comment on the Post.

Simply select the Pod you want from the Post Destination drop down option list.

Any Users who are not Members of the same Pod you are posting will still be able to view and Tip, but not comment on the Post.

This ensures that only the Members approved by the Pod Owner can engage with the content and secures the integrity of the discussions.

Posting to Public
If you want to allow anyone on the platform, even people you don’t know, to comment on your post then you can select “Public” from the Post To options.

Keep in mind that while this gives you a wider group of people who can engage in the conversations on your post, it also opens it up to individuals and “bots” that may post negative or automatic response-type comments (trolling).

The Post Destination option puts you in control of your content.

We hope you find the Social Networking features to be a valuable way to connect with others in the community.
