That first 1000 WhaleStake rush

Being bad at contests, no clue what to do next.

Publish and then some

Almost 4 weeks ago I remembered that I did have some Bitshares at the first of august 2018. Meaning I could create a Whaleshares account easily. Thanks to the support I got in the Official Whaleshares Telegram group my account was created in a jiffy. And there it was, my first amount of WLS. Just a tiny bit, but it got my membership arranged quick and easy. Powered it all up. That is the best way to do it overhere.

Busy now preparing a huge celebration of my first one thousand WhaleStake {WS}. Okay, that is a wee bit gushy, but I am very happy about it. Told my offspring and better half we would soon buy our second house. Yes, that is still a tad fulsome. Yet you may know what I mean. It is that thrill when something works out beyond what you hoped for. Yes, becoming a Whalian was a wise choice. Even if I know I'm still a tiny one, going beyond that first 1K WS feels good.

21 Million in one year

Not that I'm probably going to earn me that much. Nor any other Whalian. It is the amount of newly created WhaLeShares {WLS} in the first year. It comes down to about 800'000 new WLS added every two weeks. Currently the supply is a grand total of close to 26 million WLS. While WhaleShares is just a few months young? Yes, the first 21 million were spread out in an Airdrop.

That has finished, so we are 5 million newly created WLS into the game, 16 more to go. In theory new millionairs can be made here, but it will be highly unlikely. The more new members join in, the harder the competition for what is in the reward pool every two weeks. And I guess earning about at least a 1000+ WhaleStake {WS} per post is needed to really become a well known publisher overhere.

There is a downside

My main activity is publishing, being it blogging, sharing my photography, showing some artwork and the occasional video or audio. That is about it. Interacting a lot on these kind of platforms is not my best talent. Think I am even a kind of autistic, like most men seem to be. "Did you even hear what I just said...!?", is not a remark that is totally unfamiliar to me. Also I suck at competition in games with a lot of dos and donts.

'Go to Paris, learn French, climb the Eiffel Tower and Jump, while shooting a video of it, that you cast live. Share this with 10 friends while landing safely on your feet.' It might get you some WhaleTokens, so you can buy a big upvote via Bitshares. Well, it does a kind of feel like that to me sometimes. A bit overwhelming, to be honest. But some are really good at this game aspect of joining in these contests, competitions and or challenges.

Having fun put first

An important part of publishing my work at platforms like Whaleshares is the fun factor. Enjoying the interaction with others, even though I am challenged in that. Creating and sharing, building friendships and having many great contacts bridged over several platforms. While starting to support a group of those already known publishers.

Some might state this is circle jerking, as if it is everyone for themselves. But I think that it is both, and individual and community. Individuals would not excist if there were no communities. And without individuals there would be no communities to build. You see, that is where I disagree with that whole division thing as if it is a choice between the both aspects of being a human being. So, yes, friends help each other, support each other, also on Social Media platforms. Hence the term Social...

On a global scale

Where I live, with those dear to me, is just a small region on our huge planet. Winschoten is a smalltown, only 18'500 inhabitants. The municipal, Oldambt, has 38'000 in total. Only a few of them would know about Bitcoin, even less about Blockchain technology. And publishing on a Social Media platform, running on a blockchain, earning Cryptos, well that is even several bridges too far. So why on earth did I choose OalDamster as my brandname...

Even registered it as such on the Steem blockchain. Maybe even looks a kind of daft, that 'Oal' part. The smell of mothballs, an old ticking clock, dark brown furniture, talking about ye Oal days. And did you hear about Mrs. Jones, she had this thing going on with Mr. Smith. Yeah, and I did my best to proof me being a hipster, a man of the world, but I'd still be that odd one out. The Oal' dude from that fairly unknown part of the world.

Thanks to WhaleTokens

What I therefore learned is that I need to advertise my work. Invest part of what I already have earned elsewhere into my presence at WhaleShares. Luckily the time-frame is 14 days before potential payout, so it is a kind of more relaxed. But to get noticed, while sucking at everything that is a contest with a 1000 rules, investing in WhaleTokens is needed. Although currently almost all of them became too expensive to buy at the Bitshares DEX {Decentralized EXchange}.

Buying WhaleTokens {WT} with BTS {BiTShares} can get you upvotes for publications on Whaleshares. There are ones like MILK, bHIVE and so on. (More info at https://whaleshares.info) For a 100% upvote you might need to buy a 100 or more WTs. Some like GIVEN are set to a 1000 for a 100% upvote. Not really suitable to buy. But they are ment to be given, so that is understandable. Yet for many Whalians WhaleTokens might be an important tool for marketing ones work at this platform.

It takes investments

Time, energy and Cryptos are needed to invest to get noted. If WhaleTokens are too expensive, because buy walls were put up. Than it might become more logical to buy WLS and Power them Up as WhaleStake. As it seems already much harder to get noticed without some kind of financial injection. The potential payout a certain WhaleToken can give, also depends on the Mana of the voting account. And then it needs to be calculated at 75 percent of that. (As 25% percent is shared amongst the curators, upvote-sharers.)

At some point the investment made, paying BTS for one or more kind of WhaleTokens will become too expensive. That is the point where I guess Whalians, bad at contests like me, will go for WLS on RUDEX (a Bitshares DEX interface). Whaleshares, WLS, being scarse, will then go up in value. At least I do expect so. Being able to get to a 1000 WhaleStake {WS} or more might become quite tough in the near future. Or to get to the next 1000. Self upvoting might not be able to be avoided at some point, to get at least some return on investment.

Tough competition

Not being a really competition triggered kind of human being, I might kept stuck at some level of WhaleStake. But I know I can only be me, going my own unique path. And no matter what would be the best strategy to become a legendary Whalian, I would fail at it. So probably no millions of WhaleStake for me, but being able to give away an upvote-share worth close to 5 WLS is already awesome! Would love to be able to add 10 WLS to a publication I like.

And I just might get there before half way november 2018. Thinking about using my own Bitshares UIA {User Issued Asset} called Mondo to use for some upvoting WhaleToken like thing. Well, let me try something already. If you upvote-share this post of mine and reply with your BTS account name I will send you ten times your vote value in MONDO. That might be a great way to Airdrop it. And who knows, at some point it could be used as WhaleToken too? Please be patient though, sending is done manually.

Have a great one!
