[WhaleShares-Experiment] What Happens When You Stop Self-Voting -- 14 Days Later

This Image means nothing, give it your own definition.!

Most of us gents and ladies have being using the Self-Vote option for almost since the beginning, leaving the alternative(No Self-Vote) pretty wasted. I think in life, the beauty is to taste both side of a 'thing' to truly appreciate the 'thing' itself. So, 14 days ago I set out on a journey, I wanted to taste the syrup of both camps(Self-voting vs No-self-voting)

Let me say this, it is a different game when you post only about 1 or 2 posts in a week and decide not to self-vote. Its much easier not to self-vote in such a situation compared to a content creator who outputs almost 7 posts in 7 days. I have created 13 contents within these 14 days. So, no!, I wasn't sitting idle waiting for the days to pass.

And I will have you know also that I get to read an AVERAGE of "30-35" posts everyday with hopes to curate them(an habit?). Most times, it is even more!. Well, at times I don't go too deep on a post that doesn't captivate my taste of quality soon enough. But I try to read all those posts nonetheless.

What This Post Is/Not About

This post is geared towards alerting people on what happens when you stop self-voting, the glorious goodies that pops up and the keen eyes you begin to develop so we can better encourage creators other than ourselves.

This post is not written to criticize anyone implicitly or explicitly, if it does seem like I am talking to "YOU" at any point as you read on, just remember that I said this post isn't to spite anyone in particular!.

The 14- Days Journey

Was the first couple of days easy?, well, I will say it was pretty easy because my mind was freshly made up to go 14 days without self-voting. A brand new resolve is much easier to carry out(maybe?), Since I am already used to not upsharing mine some times back. But I must state that it began to bother me a "tiny-winy" bit when I noticed some post where still on 0 WLS in their first 9 hrs(approximately). But then, I was like; "Fuck it, just chill buddy, this is virtually normal, and changes nothing, lol".

I get it, sometimes we just want to upshare our contents to make it a bit visible quickly. I get that part!., like I said, it is a personal decision and I am here to state my experience.

My Mana Became Just A Number

I bet you, if you are a constant self-voter, your Mana always seem to be of a bother to you!. You would be busy timing your mana too often to take a rest. You are used to voting your post at almost 100% Mana, you feel sucker punched/financially retarded whenever you give yourself a 100% vote at 80% Mana. I believe this is how most people feel on this platform. (Since I asked a handful of Whalers and steamians).

What this does, is make you post only when your Mana is near full so you can give yourself a bump early enough. It reduces your content creation hunger.

Personally, I have always viewed my Mana with a less important eye, so I guess it was easier for me to make post previously even when I had not embarked on this whaleshares social experiment. When I started the journey, my Mana became completely unimportant to me at a much more higher level.

You End Up Curating More

When your Mana almost feels completely unimportant to you, you begin to see the need to curate more. Yes!, You Curate more!! Psychologically, this might be so because you are looking not to "Waste" your resources staying at 100% when you could actually give it out to great contents.

I know, its your Stake, but at that point, it doesn't feel like your stake anymore, but its your stake! :joy: . It feels more like you are a Steward of your Stake and the stake has a mind of its own. I am already a curator, I have always been. I curate so much than I create at a super height, but when a whaler decides to stop self-voting or reduce your hunger for self-votes, you instantly end up curating more than you ever did.

From an Anecdotal ground, I would argue that you will curate content more when you are not busy skyrocketing your stake and forgetting that there are "people" who this platform cannot do without; Quality content creators.. If there are no contents, it would be all junk here and there would be No Shares.

You Easily Form Bonds With People And Become Less Bewitched By WLS :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This is a fundamental element that a social media(sharing blockchain) needs the most. If humans can't communicate beyond the bewitching of WLS :money_mouth_face: , we will end up actually burning down this blockchain sooner than later. Your bag of WLS gotten in months might only get you some burgers, and that's it.

We need to form communities, concentrate more on the human touch!. If it isn't available, we are just wasting our time here, we would very much be in a gutter sooner than later. Share what you love, communicate, comment, stop ass licking, or promoting contents that isn't "quality" to "you". We need to form more super selfless communities that is tied together by the Whaleshares blockchain. Ultimately, this will even pay out for those who are very "investment concentric". Bringing in value would increase the "Investibility" opportunity of this block-chain. (I know!, Investibility isn't an actual word).

My time here has been worth it, I have really met so many people than I ever did on any social media. The fun part is; their impact has been more of heartfelt bonds than WLS bonds these few months that's has passed.

Am I Saying You Shouldn't Self Vote? Diplomacy?

Absolutely not!, that would be very disrespectful of me. Its your stake, but I implore you to use it wisely(wisely?, that sounds like you ain't using it wisely, scratch that part.). Use it in a way that mirrors the gentle Humanity in you. Don't just rape it.:slightly_smiling_face: . Mehn, these things are hard to say right. lol. But I believe we all know what I mean.

So, No, I am not saying you shouldn't vote your contents, I myself might at one point in the future vote a post of mine, who knows! . But the question is; "are you giving more than you are taking or have you at least balanced it up?"

His Stake Is Small!!!

So, some might argue that my stake is just about 11k WhaleStake, so it was easier or less discomforting. Oh No!, even though my vote was worth 14 WLS when I started this 14 days journey, you need to understand that 14 WLS is humongous considering my size. So, the right thing to take note of is that we all actually stand on an almost equal ground. A whale with a vote worth 270 WLS will face just as much resistance I face as 14 WLS wielder.

This brings a popular statement to mind; He who is accountable for little, will be accountable for much.

Vote what you love, whether it be your post or others, but remember there is a "Ying and Yang". What would the Ocean look like months, years from now?. Dried?, Deserted? or a messed up dirt pool? Consider your actions and how they affect the entire Whaleshares ocean or it would be a shitty swim for us all.

Moving Forward

That was a very satisfying whaleshares social experiment for me, in my opinion, I would advice we take this journey once in a while or even very very often and you would be amazed at how quickly you create those fantastic bonds that you keep as you move on. It was funny I only got to 100% Mana two days ago for the past 36 days :joy: .

I love you all, and I am hopeful we can all call Whaleshares Home(social home?) for years to come. Connect!, spill those love around!!, get to know one another too!!!; like a small global village. :earth_asia:. Think about Values and I hope others can pick up a mindset not to self-vote. My mind is made up, lets see how this will turn out.

PS: Anyone else ready to join me ?
