Plagiarism

Plagiarism is not just a matter of copy and paste. It is sharing content that is not yours, and make it look like you created it. It happens a lot, but that doesn't make it right.

Whaleshares platform

I think everyone who is part of the Whaleshares community will agree, we don't want plagiarism on the platform. When you share someone else's image on Facebook, Instagram, or any other social media platform, you just share. When you share an image on Whaleshares, chances are you are going to earn yourself some money with it.

Earning money using content that is not yours, is wrong.

Tracking down Plagiarized Content

This is where you all come in. We are growing fast, more and more posts are published every day. There is no way anyone can keep up with that, by manually checking all posts.

When you find content that is being presented as original work by the poster, but you also find it elsewhere on the internet on an account that seems to belong to a completely different person, let us know. This is not limited to images, it also applies to text, vids and so on.

  • Discord - there is channel dedicated to plagiarized content reports. Supply the link to the post, and a link to what you believe to be the original content.
  • Platform - if you are not a Discord member and have no desire to become one, supply the links in a reply to one of the posts of my witness account and I will take a look at it.

What Can Be Done

  • First action is, to leave a reply, to the post that contains the plagiarized content, and tell them to remove it
  • Second, if any rewards have been given to the post, approach curators and ask them to consider removing their reward
  • Third, the last resort will be to flag the post

Does it help

I like to think it does. You will find some posts with "Content removed as instructed" as content, and title. Some people have successfully been guided to create good posts themselves, by keeping in contact with them on Discord. Others have adjusted their content to make it more clear it is not their original work.

Last week the work of one of our members was copy pasted twice within our own platform. I have no idea what people who do that are thinking, but let's leave it at, it was not appreciated. Joined forces from within the community took action to make things right.

What can you do

Apart from keeping an eye out for plagiarized content, you can also do something to protect your own images. When you protect your own images, it is less likely (not impossible) people will plagiarize your images. I could put the information here but @pankso already created a post on the matter, give it a read. Prevent trouble and put the given advise to use.

What makes this platform awesome is, not you, nor me, but US.
