It‘s time for a complete overhaul of our approach to cleaning our home. All those expensive cleaning products, laundry detergent, dish soap and even floor cleaners, can easily be replaced with natural, homemade products. So today we continue the series by sharing more hints and tips on how to do everyday chores in an inexpensive alternative natural way.

MATTRESS CLEANER:

All you require for this task is baking soda and a vacuum cleaner.

• Vacuum the entire mattress thoroughly.
• Clean any stains. (See section on Stains) Be careful not to get the mattress too wet, as that can encourage mold if it doesn‘t dry completely.
• Sprinkle baking soda all over the mattress and let it sit for approximately 2 hours
• Vacuum off the baking soda.

MOTH DAMAGE PREVENTION

There is nothing more annoying than unpacking last season‘s clothing to find your favourite
woollens full of holes. The common clothes moth (Tineola bisselliella), has been blamed for the damage, but it's actually the larvae, and not the moths, that are responsible for the damage. Here is a non-toxic way to prevent this.

• ½ lb. each rosemary and mint
• ¼ lb. each tansy and thyme
• 2 Tbsp. powdered cloves.

Mix the ingredients and scatter in trunks and bags containing furs and woollens.

I am offering a safe and natural alternative to conventional treatment, but these recipes, ideas and treatment should not be misconstrued or substituted for medical advice. Please always proceed with caution and test it first on a small area, or in small quantities, if you are uncertain. Should you suspect that you or your animal have a medical problem, I urge you to seek professional advice.
