Many of us spend a lot of time in our kitchens preparing food. We don’t only want the food to taste nice, we also want the food to be as healthy and nutritious as possible.
Many times we have leftover food and don’t what to do with it, well, in this series we will be sharing some handy tips and fast track tips for all your cooking and baking adventures. These tips and hints don’t only save you a lot of time but also save a lot of money in the long run.
BREAD
Here are a few tip tips on how to use left over bread and how best to store it!
• Stale bread can be turned into breadcrumbs and stored in the freezer for future use.
• Bread rolls that are a day old can taste fresh again, by quickly running them under water and popping them into a hot oven for a few minutes.
• Fresh bread can be cut into thin slices by placing the knife into hot water. Once the knife is hot, dry it thoroughly and slice your bread.
BUTTER
Here is an easy way. Place some butter on a piece of paper and set the paper alight. If the butter
is pure the odour will be dainty and agreeable, if not the odour will be unpleasant.
When you are baking and require soft butter and don‘t necessarily want to melt it here‘s
what you do. Use a glass into which you pour hot water.
Allow the glass to get hot and then turn it upside down over the butter. Leave it for a few
minutes and your butter will be soft enough to use.
CAULIFLOWER
Add a little lemon juice to the boiling water when cooking cauliflower for a snowy white stalk. The lemon juice will also curb the strong smell.
CELERY
To keep celery fresh, chop off the bottom of the stalks and put them in a container of chilled water. The bottom of the stalk can be placed in a shallow dish of water and after a little while, your celery will regrow.
