WLS Price For Witness To Break Even

A few posts ago, I explored monthly earnings of witnesses. This time, I'll see how much the price of WLS will need to be to cover witness cost for a top 20 witness.

Again, I'll be using $5 as its a good point to get a good server from a reliable hosting company. We'll also go with the assumption that this top witness is not being smart and isn't having a backup witness setup(preferably multiple). Last time, we calculated that a top 20 witness earns 202.908 WLS a day, times 28(7 days per week * 4 weeks per month) = 5681.424 WLS per 28 days. We'll be calling that a month. Lets say our witness was able to cover first month's price out of pocket and so they had a month to wait and then started powering down once they had 5681.424 WLS in their wallet.

Right now, we are allowed to powerdown 68.907223314% of our Whalestake. That comes out to 3914.911 WLS being able to be powered-down over 13 weeks. That comes out to 301.147 WLS per week, or 1204.588 WLS per month.

We need 1204.588 WLS to equal $5 in order for a top witness to break even That means we need the price of WLS to equal to $0.0042 in order for the top witnesses to break even.

Surprisingly, we were able to hit that for a short amount of time. Right now, we aren't at that much, but it is possible for witnesses to break even when the price of WLS goes back up. Pretty great isn't it?
