Are you making voice comments yet?

Sharing our thoughts and opinions is a fundamental part of life. Something that can become quite complex when we introduce the varying emotional states that we are situated in.

Text-based posts and comments can be tricky if we aren't able to determine whether or not someone is being sarcastic, passive-aggressive, or just an overall dick. What if we didn't need to decipher whether or not someone's text message was intentionally hurtful? What if we had the help of a voice recording so we could listen to the tone of their voice and the way they sound when they share said message?

#voicecomment

I've been practicing this method for a few days with my comments and I've already found it to be very fulfilling and enjoyable.

The idea for this spawned in an impromptu voice meeting in the Whaleshares discord last week. I mentioned the point about text messages being difficult to assess during the chat which then sparked a eureka moment for @intelliguy.

He shared the idea of voice commenting and said: 'What if we could embed voice messages in the comment section using dsound with the click of a button?' (more eloquently of course, but you get the jist).
What if we don't need to wait around for this to become a reality?

How do I make my voice comments?

I use dsound on the Steem blockchain to share my responses to posts/comments, or if I'm voice recording for an overview of my own post.

I made an account called 'calumam-voice' and decided to keep all my recordings on that blog to prevent my other page from filling up with them. For some, this may not be a problem, but I like things to be neat.

To make a voice comment, I start up a sound recorder on my laptop, speak my mind, then I convert the file to mp3 so it can be uploaded to dsound.

From there, I upload to calumam-voice, I state in the title and description who the comment is for, then I paste the dsound link into my Whaleshares comment.

How long does this take?

Usually, 10-15 minutes depending on how long the recording is. The first recording took longer, which is pretty obvious, but once you get a rhythm going the time taken is drastically reduced.

Imagine what it could be like if we have this in the click of a button?

What do I gain from this?

Let's start with what the other person gets from this first. That is the most important thing when it comes to our communications.

How does your recording make the other person feel? Always keep this question in mind.

Give it a go

This is a different way for us to share what we have enjoyed and found value in. It also helps us to connect with others on a more personal level. This is something that goes a long way when you actually give a shit about the people you're meeting here on the platform.

Now consider how well this method could work for conflicts and dramas that appear on the platform. A simple voice message could defuse and squash any unnecessary aggro. Things that start off as a simple misunderstanding can often snowball into an avalanche consuming anyone in its path.

I've shared in my posts recording what I think about the other side of the coin but I don't intend to write it in text format for it to be misinterpreted.

Recognition

I want to see more people adopting this method as time goes on, so I've decided to make it my mission to help people gain recognition for their efforts.

I'm going to knock up a post which will highlight some of my favourite voice messages that I find here on the platform so that other members can head over to see them. These will be in the form of comments, or posts if people decide to dedicate a response in that manner.

If you choose to make a post, please use the #voicepost tag. If you make a voice comment, drop me a link to the comment on this post and I'll pop by to hear your thoughts.

Get in touch via discord if you'd like to help with encouragement.

Below is a voice overview of the post if you want to hear the thoughts straight from my mouth. The recording is 6 and a half minutes long.
