My hometown

I live in Zutphen, the Netherlands. Zutphen is a medium to small sized town in the eastern part of the Netherlands quiet near the German border (about 30 km)

There live about 47.000 people in Zutphen divided into several neighbourhoods. The river "De Ijssel" floats past. Zutphen was founded in the Roman era and is one of Holland's most oldest cities. Nowadays it's a nice place to live, it is a bit like a big city but it is all peace and quite for the most time.

Local delicatesses

Zutphen doesn't have real local food or drinks but one thing they are famous for is the Zutphense Mustard:

The inner city

Zutphen has a very old and cosey center with some nice restaurants and bars. Especially at Christmas it's great with all the nice lights and decorated shop windows. We also have some great old building's which attracts a lot of tourists.

In the summer and winter you can get guided tours througout the city. It's a network of volunteers and pensionada's who love to talk about the Zutphen history. For instance the "Oude Ijsselbrug" which means "The old ijssel bridge" , this bridge was build during the second worldwar to be able to cross the ijssel with military goods. The bridge still is used on a daily base by a lot of people to cross the ijssel. Last year a lot of volunteers painted the brigde together and the local government refurbished the bridge with some cool lights:

For families Zutphen is a great place, you got all kind of services like supermarkets, sportclubs, different levels of eductions , a nice centre of the city with a lot of shops and last but not least good medical centre.

Although it is a great city we are moving next april to Vorden, that's a small village next to Zutphen. Our reason for that is that we want to have a bit more space around the house and in the house... But we Always will be a part of Zutphen....

Have a great day !!!
