Visiting The LA Maritime Museum (Part 2)

Having a Look Around Inside

The museum is chock full of amazing artifacts from the past. This diver's locker was probably my favorite room. For me, it is hard to imagine putting all this stuff on my body and sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

(Don't forget to check out part 1 if you missed it.)

I think I'd be feeling quite claustrophobic with all of that gear on. I guess you could compare it to being in your own personal submarine.

Check out that Rollei Rolleiflex camera on the top shelf, there. This is called a TLR, or Twin-lens reflex camera. Interestingly, these types of cameras still sell for a high price on Ebay. People love their vintage tech! It's definitely cool looking, at least.

Imagine trying to walk around in those boots. You have to be lowered into the water once you have all of this stuff on because the weight is just too much to handle for mere mortals.

Imagine having that massive thing bolted down to your suit. Even with the support of the surrounding water, the divers still had to have quite a high level of physical fitness to manage these bad boys.

The Angel's Gate Lighthouse Lens

Now this think is just really cool looking. It is a very impressive piece of technology, especially for the time. We didn't have the precise, computer guided tools that we have today, back then. Lenses were painstaking made to very precise specifications.

The following is an information sheet that was placed next to the exhibit:

Here's a closer look at the lens detail. Wow! You would not want to be directly in front of that beast while it was focusing light into a tight beam.

Thanks for stopping by! Check back soon to see part 3, where I will share some images that I took of the amazing scale model ships that are on display. The detail is exquisite!

As always - be sure to head over and vote for your block producers! They are keepin' this party rockin.
