📷 Adventures in Photography: At Home with Velaris - Sydney Harbour Bridge

Hey beautiful people!

The sun is out in my gorgeous part of the world... maybe summer is truly on its way. Though the veggie and flower gardens have benefited greatly from all the rain.. as have the weeds I have been carefully cultivating - they've just gone great guns!

I know it seems I'm always off on crazy adventures around the world (not nearly enough I can tell you) However today I thought I'd share a bit about my local hangout. I really am blessed to live where I do and while I go jaunting off to experience just a fraction of how others live, I am always grateful to come home and realise just how lucky I am that I have that choice and means to do so.

We live north of Sydney - far enough away to be out of the bustle, but close enough to head down there for work - and when it's sometimes fun to be part of that bustle. Sydney is arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world! Every now and then hubby and I decide to pop down to the city for an overnight trip and pretend to be tourists. It's a great way to see an alternative side of the places we live. Normally if I'm in the city, it's purely for work and I rarely get the time to just sit, enjoy it and view through a different lens.

Of course, when people think of Sydney you can't help but think of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. And I thought I'd show this awesome landmark from different perspectives.

I love to sit by the harbour and enjoy the views of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and watch the famous Manly Ferry come steaming in to dock.

From Circular Quay with the Manly Ferry coming in to dock.

In the immortal words of James Reyne - and one of my favourite Aussie songs

"Meet me down by the jetty landing,
Where the pontoons bump and sway,
I see the others reading, standing,
As the Manly Ferry cuts its way to Circular Quay"

(Reckless - Australian Crawl, 1983)

Luna Park is another iconic landmark, and lately, I seem to be attending work conferences there. Imagine having this view, which I did for a quick meeting with a client during the conference.

Pretty hard to get work done when you are floating 40 meters up with views over Luna Park, the bridge and the Sydney Opera House!

Pirrama Park honours the first Australians who lived in the area. It means ‘rocking stone’ in the Gadigal language. The Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture awarded Pirrama Park for its stunning design in 2012.

Not visible in this photo but the perfectly landscaped site includes grasslands, wide avenues, a playground, cafe, public toilets as well as picturesque spots for barbecues and picnics.

How about a view from under the bridge? The foreshore around our harbour has a lot of open public space, so everyone can enjoy the views - not just the mega-rich who build the houses on the waterfront around some of the bays.

Take a walk along the foreshore under the Harbour Bridge. Hickson Road Reserve is the most popular of all the foreshore areas for filming and photography with its extensive views of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Every now and then we are lucky enough to get on a sailing yacht - usually as part of a team building exercise. Seeing Sydney from the water is yet another great perspective. If not a Yacht - even a ferry ride would suffice!

A lot of the yacht clubs around Sydney Harbour actually offer free sailing if you want to give crewing a try. It's fun and a great experience. I've crewed 36 footers a couple of times now and it is a blast. If I could afford it, it would definitely be a sport to take up!

Of course, there is a great way to round out a day exploring Sydney and views of "The Coat Hanger" nick-named because of the bridges arches.

And of course nothing like ending the afternoon at the Sydney Theatre Company with a gorgeous bar at the end of the wharf and great views of the harbour - glass of bubbles optional :)

Well I hope you enjoyed these different perspectives of our Famous Sydney Harbour Bridge.. look out for more adventures with me at home and abroad!

Til next time wishing you love and light
