Travel Adventures to the Islands of Samoa

A very quick post today. Adventure travel to Samoa in the South Pacific. This is my 6th installment for #thebeast. I travelled with my family this year, back in April. A good time to visit as long as you're prepared for the storm downpours in between brilliant sunshine. I like tropical storms and the rain is warm anyway. The rain comes pretty cyclically and lasts for about 10-15 minutes, as each front rolls in off the sea.

There are two main islands. We stayed on the furthest one and reached it by Ferry crossing that takes a couple of hours. You can rent beach fale's (houses made of bamboo and palm tree). This island is called Savai'i (pronounced Sava-eee).

The locals are very friendly. Always smiling and greeting the tourists. Tourism is very important for their economy.

I hired a scooter for 6 days and rode around both islands (3 days on each island). Its really the best way to get around and see the sights. Only once did I stop to ask for directions. I was trying to get to the Mountain region inland.

This is an awesome place to see the sea water rush up through the volcanic tunnels left behind. They are called the Alofaaga Blowholes near Taga village. You can also swim with turtles at the turtle sanctuary at Satoalepai.

What's often not seen in the usual travel guides, are pictures of the everyday life of people who live here. This family have come to do their weekly clothes washing in a fresh water run-off from the hills behind their village.

I took the opportunity to cool off under the small water-fall. Despite the intermittent tropical storm fronts and rain and riding a Suzuki scooter, it was quite warm (28 degrees Celsius).

Thanks for reading. Time is short today :).
