WOW, you guys are really killing it out there! Congratulations to those who decided to take this leap and jumpstart your community engagement. This "house cleaning" post is more utilitarian but we're going to address a few things that we've encountered so far.

SPREADSHEET

The spreadsheet is a visual tracking guide. Details include:

  • username & date joined
  • numbers of followers, posts, following
  • date of posts the header will let you know if it's been published
  • a color key which allows us to find posts which may not yet qualify under the CEC guidelines.
  • links to posts

If you are not on it but should be, let us know in comments!

Add the screenshot of your header and we'll add you.

Let's address the color key

colorkey.jpg

  • <300
If the post has less than 300 words, it does not qualify - and yes, we are checking!
All #thebeast posts must be 300+ words. Long signatures/footers are not counted.
Participants have an opportunity to add additional text to boost their word count.
If they do, then it qualifies to be listed in the DAILY BEAST - our curated blog post.

  • Featured photo/citation
A featured photo with proper citation is necessary to be qualified for this challenge.
Unless the photos have been taken by you, please make sure they are properly cited and used from creative commons sources!
Giphy.com and Pixabay.com are great resources for public use. Most of the time you do not need attribution, however, it is highly recommended. Remember: Just because a photo or illustration is on wikipedia or google doesn't mean you can use it! Err on the side of caution to prevent plagiarism or DMCA takedown notices.

For your personal photos, we recommend you watermark your photos to protect your property from unlicensed use.

If your posts are highlighted in orange or dark orange, you have an opportunity to edit your post to qualify it! We will then add your post to the next DAILY BEAST curation.

  • No Tag
These are posts which do qualify under #thebeast guidelines, but for whatever reason they contributor did not include our tag. This does not disqualify the post however it does make it more difficult for @lexikon082 and @merej99 to track the posts unless they visit everyone's blog page! With nearly approximately 60 people participating, you can understand how this is extremely time consuming!

More color keys are coming
As we near the finish line, you will see rows being highlighted with different colors. These are going to track finishers, people on the edge, and people who didn't finish. Plagiarism and SPAM are going to be highlighted too. You do not want to get on that list.

"I didn't see my post on the list"

#1 Check the Spreadsheet!
If you are not there then we don't know you've joined. We sweep our posts throughout the day to make sure we didn't miss anyone. Leave a screenshot of your header below and we'll add you. Your time starts from that moment.

#2 Fear not. If your post is within the minimum standards it's quite possible that it wasn't posted before we did the daily sweep and it should be included the next day. Remember: All posts can receive rewards up to 14 days. It's okay if you spread out your shares so you're not killing your mana.

Another thing to remember is that you are not required nor obligated to read, follow, share or comment on anyone's post.

Tag Squatters

We might be getting salty about community members using #thebeast tag if they haven't joined. We're okay with it until we close down the challenge to new people (October 24, 2018). After that, we're going to be leaving angry eyebrows  because you'd be screwing with our spreadsheets and making more work for @lexikon082 and @merej99 - We want to have fun too.

FUN STUFF

How is your challenge experience so far?
