One of the ways to succeed in life is to be talented. If you are talented, it will open doors to many opportunities, thereby making you succeed faster. But you will agree with me that having a talent isn't enough, and if you think otherwise, why are they many people with good talents being wasted? We do have a lot of talented people who are not successful, yet have what it takes to succeed in life?

Yes, you can sing so well for an example, but you are not getting gigs, even when you are what the people want? I feel there are certain things we need to put in check in order for us to succeed with those God-given talents. Here are some of them.

FIVE TALENT KILLERS

There are so many reasons why talents are killed. Well, if care is not taken anyone can fall victim to this. So, it's always very important to watch the things we do and not let our attitude ruin our lives

PRIDE:
When you are so full of yourself. I have seen a lot of talented people with pride in them. They always feel no one is better, and also feel no one can do without them.

Pride makes it hard for people to accommodate you. God is not pleased when we are so full of ourselves, He promises death and destruction when we allow pride to take over our lives. Pride can comfortably bring anyone down no matter, how much talent you've got.

Pride will get you to listen to flatterers and ignore honest counselors. Now, let's look at this, do you think, you're indispensable? Well, let me break this to you; no one on earth is indispensable. Have you ever wondered, why companies can let go of their "Supposedly" indispensable staff? It's simply because there is always someone better than you somewhere.

God does hate those who have pride in them, and who would want to get on His wrong side? Humility, on the other hand, is pleasing to God and places your life in a position where God will honor you.

ENVY:
Envy is when you want what someone else has, imagining that a quality or something possessed by someone else would bring you happiness or fulfillment.

You are talented, but you always feel you lack something that will lead you to be admired as much as you secretly admire in someone. When you are envious that you can do anything to bring someone down and get all the attention the person has been enjoying.

You are indifferent, when a person that has the same talent, achieve a milestone. Sometimes, you can even pay to get their reputation ruined. Envy can bring your talent & reign to an end. It ruins the ability deposited inside of you.

Are you talented, but you're so envious of others? This will definitely do you more harm than good. It will be nice to seek help and work on how to be happy for others especially those in the same career path.

GREED:
You're talented, but you allow your selfish desire for somethings especially wealth, power or food destroy your personality.

How many of us follow a TV series called "SCORPION"? Tobi is a genius, but he almost ruined his life with gambling (gambling with greed).

When you are never contented with the things you have acquired, being obsessed with worldly possessions. Yes, we know you're talented, but would being greedy do to you? It will expose your weaknesses and make you vulnerable.

You want it all to yourself! After a show, you want all the money that belongs to the whole team, even when yours is bigger than theirs. You are so vexed why will others even have that little. Greed will bring you and your talent down, people will avoid you like a plague. If you are not careful and put away greed, a lot of things will definitely go wrong and come back to hunt you.

LUST:
Lust drags you down. You're talented, yet you have zero control and then engage in whatever you feel like doing, will definitely kill your talent.

When you're always in the news for sex scandals, rape cases & sexual assault. In the past, we have seen celebrities being brought down just because they find it hard to control their lust. And today, they are nowhere to be found despite being so talented. Lust can crumble down the mighty!

If you want to make use of your talent, you must learn to control your desires and put them in check, and probably seek help if need be. I mean, who would want to associate with a rapist? The world frowns at those things and wouldn't spare anyone who indulges in such acts.

Sometimes, because you can't control your lustful desires, the opponent can use it as a trap just to get rid of you and take your fame. People can easily set you up with these things because you have made it open to every one of your weakness. This is one of the ways talents are been killed off.

Lust can totally destroy your whole life in 5 minutes! Don't ever think the fact you're famous, gives you the right to get away with anything! You don't have such right and will never have!!!

EGO:
Talent is great. It definitely boosts your success. The problem starts once you let it go into your head. You start thinking success will last with you forever and that you're entitled to it.

Once you start thinking that you're the cat meow, you are setting yourself up for very painful failure. There is a big difference between confidence and ego. Confidence is healthy, ego is destructive.

The greatness conflicts are not between two people but between one person and himself - Garth Brooks

Don't let your ego get too close to your position so that if your position gets shot down, your ego doesn't go with it - Colin Powell

In conclusion,

Our talents are not enough, we need to work on ourselves to achieve great success with those talents. Any of these can pull us down with so many other things. Nobody is perfect, but we can all work towards perfection. They say the first in solving a problem is by realizing that you even have one in the first place then help will surely come. It's unhealthy for anyone to bottle any of these talent killers up without letting those sincere people around to know what's up. There is something to be ashamed about; a problem shared is a problem half solved.
