🐳 Whaleshares State of the Witnesses - Update #12 - @nsfwizard Spotlight
📝 What is "State of the Witnesses"?
State of the witnesses will be a regular update provided to the community on the status of the Whaleshares witnesses. The intent is to keep members informed of what is happening on the platform and what witnesses are doing. It is important that members of the community vote for witnesses that represent them and are driving the platform in the right direction. These updates are not intended to be all inclusive, but should only be a portion of the information used for your decision making.
In addition to the overall status, each update will also feature one witness in the "Witness Spotlight". This will allow the community to get a deeper look into the person/group behind the witness and how they play a part in the Whaleshares community.
📈 Status
As mentioned last report, we came to our first required update to address a memory allocation issue that is a security vulnerability.
Version 0.2.6 was released 24 days ago to mitigate this vulnerability and unfortunately we have 18 active witnesses that have not updated or failed to communicate it in the official Discord #witness-chat channel. Witnesses that continue to run a vulnerable version put the whole chain at risk.
The update was announced in the Whaleshares Official Discord #witness-chat channel with all witnesses being tagged and requested to indicate in the channel when their node(s) had been updated. I have indicated in the chart below with a ✅those witnesses that have confirmed their node(s) have been updated. If you are one of the few witnesses that are not a member of the Discord channel, I would strongly suggest you become involved (instruction on getting access to the channel are in the Witness Guide) as this is the primary place for witness communications. I will continue to track confirmations for next report.
There are currently 8 witnesses disabled in the top 50. Some have been disabled for many days and I encourage everyone to review and reconsider your witness votes. We should try to keep the top 50 witnesses as enabled and block producing capable.

@blackman, @intelliguy, @blckchnd and @deranged-witness have publicly announced they have shut down their witnesses for good. There are witnesses outside the top 50 that are functional, so if you are in this list of names, please remove your votes. Witness voting is a responsibility of all member and not just a one time deal. Everyone should make it a habit to regularly review their votes and make adjustments.

⭐️ Witness Spotlight - @nsfwizard ⭐️
📌 For those who don't know much about witnesses, in layman’s terms, can you give your thoughts on what is the job of a witness?
Very simply, witnesses produce blocks of transactions and secure the blockchain. Witnesses are also involved in chain governance and deciding the direction of the chain.
📌 What brought you to Whaleshares?
Everything Whaleshares stands for. A social sharing platform which has many valuable tools which are quite advantageous to growing communities. The vision is what sold me.📌 What is your background and how does that make you a good witness?
My background is in community building. What I contribute to the platform is utilizing the tools we have to expand the user base. I'm in contact with other projects and groups and helping to onboard them and educating them on our platform.📌 What excites you most about being a witness?
Being able to give back to the community on a full time basis is the most rewarding part, to me. A year ago, I'd never have expected to be doing what I'm doing now.📌 Are you running any projects on Whaleshares?
I'm not running any projects on Whaleshares but tracking down parties that could be quite useful in building projects for our chain and beyond. I started the official mainstream social media also and am currently looking for help in nothing more than scheduling strategically placed, daily posts. I'm also a member of the Beyond Bitcoin team.📌 Do you have or plan to have a WhaleToken? If so, tell us about it.
My whaletoken is EROTX. It is a token backed by the @nsfwizard account and used to reward community initiatives and contests. The token is NOT strictly NSFW related. I fully support the NSFW community but my main focus is growing Whaleshares as a whole.📌 What are your goals as a witness?
My goals are the goals of Whaleshares. To make this the go to hub for sharing ideas.📌 What do you see as the biggest challenge for Whaleshares and how do you think it should be addressed?
At this point in time, from my angle, ease of use in the sign up process is a pretty big challenge. Being at the forefront of onboarding, and targeting key blockchain and non-blockchain related individuals and businesses, I may see this as a challenge more than some. However, I do believe that these issues will be worked out in due time, I have no doubt.📌 If you had to vote for only one witness (not yourself) who would it be and why?
I couldn't ever vote for just one. There are many talented witnesses, each with their own skill set that are very valuable to the community as a whole, to shine a light on one would take away from the rest. I suggest reaching out to each one, or tune in to these witness spotlights to see what each witness is about and how they contribute in their own way.📌 Tell the community why you deserve their vote?
I'd never ask for a vote. On that note, if you believe that mainstream outreach is important in building our platform, that's what I do. I'm blessed to be able to do this full time, being a witness.
