Manchester City hosted Borussia Dortmund in what has been billed to be a classic first leg Quarter Final encounter because of the attacking football both teams play. It's always beautiful in the UEFA Champions League.

Dortmund showed their attacking intent so early on in the 7th minute when Jude Bellingham received a flick in the box and his effort was parried away by Ederson. Ederson was quick to react to it even though Walker tried but couldn't prevent the shot.

Manchester City sensed blood and reacted quickly in the 18th minute when Foden was found at the side of the box, his cross across the face of the post found Mahrez who did everything right to keep the ball in and laid it off to Kevin Debruyne. He wasted no chance and smashed home his shot to make it 1-0. Brilliant stuff from City.

In the 37th minute, City got lucky when an adjudged error from Ederson allowed Jude Bellingham to take the ball off his feet and strolled the ball into the empty net. The referee gave a free-kick to City much to the dismay of Bellingham because Ederson was the one that kicked him but the referee thought he kicked Ederson. That would have been a certain goal to draw them level.

The first half ended with City going ahead on the break and the quiet Haaland tried to stake his claim on the match at the restart when Dahoud played him through in the 48th minute but the pressure from Ruben Dias made him lose his stride and couldn't get as much effort on the ball as he would have liked but Ederson expertly blocked the ball and saved it.

Foden saw his effort saved in the 61st minute after a brilliant run from Debruyne led to a pass to him in the box but he shot straight at the goalkeeper. Not long after, in the 76th minute, Debruyne withstood a lot of challenges to take a strike at goal but he missed marginally. What a goal that would have been.

In the 84th minute, Halaand found Marco Reus and the skipper on the night expertly dispatched his effort to score the crucial away goal for Dortmund much to the joy of every Dortmund staff on the field and the players too.

Dortmund thought they had gone away with a draw but City had other matters on hand. A long ball in the 89th minute found Gundogan right inside the box. He brilliantly controlled it and laid it off to Foden who was just ahead of him. Foden wasted no chance and he blasted it home to give City a two-goal cushion and a win ahead of the second leg in Dortmund.

The tie is not over and it is hard to predict who will go through especially with Dortmund wielding the away goal and City would have to quickly get that away goal too when they meet to calm their nerves during the game. It was a balanced game but City won.
