Chelsea weathered the storm at the Vicarage Road after the match was suspended 12 minutes into the game for 30 minutes due to a medical emergency from one of the fans on the stand.

The game eventually resumed and Chelsea picked up where they left off to steer themselves to a 2-1 victory after their last draw with Manchester United just a few days ago. Watford hoped to get something out of the game with their new coach watching on the sidelines but it wasn't to be as the former Chelsea coach; Claudio Ranieri watched as his side were dealt with a late goal from Ziyech after Mount and Bonaventure both scored for the two sides as they were pegged at 1-1 before the 72nd minute.

Chelsea won't leave that top spot without a fight and they managed to get that win to kick start the winning run they have been used to before the draw with Manchester United.

Mendy had to be at his best after Joshua King got on the end of a lovely inswinging cross from the right-hand side. The ball eventually came off Azpilicueta and would have been an own goal if not for the alertness of Mendy to deny that opportunity.

Chelsea got a chance of their own when Loftus-Cheek's header sets up Mason Mount inside the box as he blasted his shot which came off the post. Saul gathered the rebound but could only slice his shot sideways. Chelsea came really close there.

Chelsea finally got their goal in the 30th minute and it was a well-worked out goal after Rudiger brilliantly found Alonso with a lofted long pass. Alonso picked out Havertz inside the box and he unselfishly laid the pass to Mason Mount who powered home a lovely drive shot into the back of the net to give Chelsea the lead.

Watford got levelled just before halftime after Sissoko's lovely run afforded him space to pick out Emmanuel Dennis (Bonaventure) who had it all to do despite being closed down. He fired a lovely effort in between the legs of Rudiger as the ball found the back of the net.

Alonso was at the heart of the second goal for Chelsea yet again in the 72nd minute when he found Mason Mount just at the side of the box. Mount's vision picked out Ziyech inside the box and he produced a lovely strike that found the roof of the net to give Chelsea a 2-1 lead and of course, the 3 points and that's how the game ended despite Ziyech being set up with a header after but his header was easily saved by the goalkeeper as it lacked accuracy and strength.

Chelsea are determined to hold on to their slender lead at the top of the table and are pushing hard to get the win even when they are not on their best days. It's interesting to see how the events of the season would turn out with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool vying for a spot at the top.
