Psychology In Measuring Backward

Hi, Folks!

In the history of making a progress continuous improvement is a measure or a dedication to making small changes and improvements every day having the mind of those small improvements will add up to something significant.

Approach

There is an approach to action if you must make a change, for self-improvement setting a large goal and trying to take big leaps such that accomplish the goal within a very little time as much as possible for people around us awareness has been the typical approach to self-improvement. This theory is cool but most time its ends in burnout, failure, and frustration. It is high time we focus on continuous progress/improvement by slowly and slightly adjusting our normal daily behaviors and habits.

Let's stress this, to dismiss the quality of making slightly better decisions every day is very easy. Yes! To stick with the fundamentals is not impressive, also getting one percent better is not going to make headlines but there is one important thing in all this reasoning, this process works

You Ask Does Continuous Improvement Work? If it does, show the way.

Our belief as humans is that change is only meaningful if there is some large or visible outcome associated with it. Like when you see your weight losing, building project or business we most time put pressure on ourselves to make so many earth-shattering improvements that everyone will talk about. Oh yes, it's cool and improving by just one percent we believe isn't notable, but it's very meaningful especially in the long run.

Let me show you the power of tiny gains

PicsArt: Tiny Gain Graph by samest

When you begin from the above graph, there is no difference between making a choice of one percent better or one percent worse, meaning that this won't impact you very much as of today but when you continue the small improvement or declines compound and the next thing you begin to experience is the sudden change with a very big gap between people who make slightly better decisions fail and those who don't.

What am I saying;

When you get one percent better daily for one year, you will end up thirty-seven times better by the time you are done. Check out the above graph.

So, friends relax when you take a step and seems no change, it will add up over the long term... Continue at what you are doing and make sure it's on a positive note.

Here are some steps to help stay focus

  • Continue On What Already Works

Many at times, we waste resources and ideas at our fingertips because we feel they don't seem new and exciting. We want to start up a new thing that no one has work on which is a very good move, but there are many examples of habits/behaviors, big or small that has the potential to drive progress in our lives if we just did them with more consistency. When you perform business tasks every day not when you have time I tell you to change is inevitable in that business.
See, progress will always hide behind boring solutions and underused insights. I challenge you, friends, you need no better strategy, not more information the only thing you need is to do more of what already works.

  • Ensure No Tiny Losses

Take it out of your mind, to improve it must base on doing the right things. NO. Improvement is base on doing fewer things wrong. Do you copy that?. From the word improvement, it simply means the concept of improvement by subtraction, you focus on doing less of what doesn't work. Eliminate your mistakes, reduce your complexity and try to strip away the inessential.

What are you are saying, Mr. Man? Well,

Stay away from a stupid mistake, but rather make fewer mental errors.

Losing money is inevitable but again limit your risk to that.

In reality, it Is very easy to improve your performance just be cutting the downside rather than capturing the upside... Hope you believe this statement? Friends, subtraction is more practical than addition when we place them side by side.

You want big gains, then do away with tiny losses.

  • Take Your Measurement Backward

Everyone like to measure progress by looking forward. We make plans, set goals for our progress and we try to predict the future to some degree but again there is an opposite, I mean a more useful approach to progress. Why not measure backward not forward? Is it look strange to you?

The measure you take backward simply means a decision you make based on what has already happened and not on what you want to happen.

See this illustration;

I want more people to know about my business, then measure yourself. How many new people did I relate with or meet per day last week? Zero? Then you know what to do next to make progress...

Oh, I need to reduce my weight. How many calories intake per day last week?

As an entrepreneur, you check your clients, oh, I only landed two clients last week and my average is five, I need to focus on making more sales calls this week.

You better a little bit better when you measure backward with the mind of progress. Think and measure your done actions and plan for the future.

I will leave you with this;

Improvement by measuring backward bring about improvement by subtraction because it opens you to little mistakes and opens your eyes to better plans you need to make to achieve more.
