As reported by the Xinhua News Agency, Monday (9/28/2020), the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervision Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) announced in a statement that a total of 16,731 Chinese officials were sentenced throughout August. The form of punishment imposed is not specified. It only mentioned that the convicted officials were involved in 11,259 cases deemed to have violated the country frugality rules. Chinese authorities sentenced more than 16,000 of its officials for violating frugality rules. The violations committed include practicing bureaucratism that hinders the wheels of government.

According to the statement, the officials convicted also included 28 officials at prefecture level or equivalent and 859 officials at district level or equivalent. Among those convicted, 10,143 officials were found guilty of bureaucratism or the practice of formality for the sake of bureaucracy. Another 6,693 cases of bureaucratism are being investigated.

Meanwhile, the statement also stated that the Chinese authorities investigated 4,566 cases of hedonism and extravagant behavior, such as giving or receiving gifts, giving unauthorized allowances or bonuses and misusing state money for banquets. Regarding these cases, there are 6,588 officials who have been convicted. The form of punishment given is not specified.

CPC is known to have released an 8-point rule of frugality since the end of 2012 to combat unwanted work practices.

So hopefully useful information.
