ASHES OF THE MOON

Good days are fading
The sun is crumbling to dust
On the lids of my eyes
And I can see the flowers
Curling their edges.
Am I in a dream,
Or is this truly how it ends?
The moon's light longs for the sea
Just as much as I long for peace,
Just as much as I long for silence
In my head, stillness in the air
And in my heart, something
Akin to fireflies flickering in the night.
Do I ask for too much?
I will build a world for me,
I said once, a shrouded time ago
But I am lost here, shut off,
Denied even this world.
What have I become?
Inside me is a man
Drowning slow, gasping,
Calling on someone, anyone.
Inside me there's the dust
Of a burnt sun and the ashes
Of a cold moon.
But I should not bother you.
What would you know
Of a man like me?
I am tired of trying.
