Black Five, Take Two - Warminster, England

Here's what my shots looked like when I was at the other end of the Warminster platform. (It was mid-March.) Although no other photographers (or other "twitchers") are in the way now, there are disadvantages as well. Mainly in that I have less time from when the engine appears until it passes me only a couple of feet away from me.

Again, this was the Black 5 that was pulling an excursion train through the Wiltshire countryside.

This lovely profile shows how glossy the engine is - you could almost see your reflection in it!

The Black 5 is a LMS (London, Midland and Scottish Railway) Stanier Class 5 4-6-0. This particular example was built in 1945 and withdrawn from service in 1968. It is currently being overhauled (according to the Wikipedia article ) so that it can be mainline certified again.

Note: Sorry, no poetry today, I've been working on my books today!

Photos taken in 2012 with my Pentax K100D.
