Adventures in Book Photography
Hey Adventurers,
Today we are taking a completely different photographic adventure.
One thing I have not really shared on here yet is my obsession with books and reading. I am a member of two book clubs. Well, let's be honest, one book club that reads and discusses books and one champagne club that discussed which books we really should read and discuss.. but after we've had another glass of bubbles. (It is aptly named "Read Between The Wines")
It also turns out because of my interest in photography I'm a bit of an Instagram fan as well!
So join books, photography and Instagram and we have...wait for it....
BOOKSTAGRAM!
So just what is Bookstagram. Well, it's simply an Instagram hashtag that is used for book-related pictures. But there is no simple about it. There is a whole art around it as it turns out. People carefully create the "look" they want on their Instagram feed - whether it be clean and crisp or fantasy (which is really popular with the reading set).
I probably don't go to that extent.. but I do like getting creative with props and some of the photo editing apps on my phone (I have about 36 at the moment - time for a cull.. I need to go to Apps Anonymous)
The bookstagram community is a pretty big one and there are some amazing profiles out there. Most bloggers start by using the bookstagram hashtag as a way to drive traffic to their websites - but its really evolved into a great place to find reviews, recommendations and conversations about books.
Obviously, IG is a very visual platform so it's kind of important to have eye-catching photos. I'm always up for a shopping trip so recently I decided to check out the dollar shops and see what props I could dig up... things like fairy lights, flowers, material and candles.
I didn't want to spend too much money and I also wanted to be able to take the photos with my smartphone and upload straight to IG without mucking around too much with my DSLR, lighting and photoshop.
The dollar shops are a great place to go and they generally seem to have a craft section as well. Scrap-booking paper makes great backgrounds.. and I was lucky to find a decorative piece of timber board that will make a perfect base. I ended up with quite a haul and under $50.
I did also, however, find a collectables shop.. and they literally had hundreds of Funko Pops calling to me from the vast wall they covered!
So in the tradition of Bookstagram, I've taken a "Shelfie". Spot the Funko Pops from some of my favourite fantasy stories.
Anyway, I thought I'd share some of my creations. These were all done on my Samsung Galaxy Phone and edited using one or several of my Phone Apps
Til the next adventure
Wishing you so much Love & Light,
