Love is in the air
Last week I had the pleasure of shooting my first engagement session. This is something I normally wouldn't do because I don't want to be a wedding type of a photographer, but I have wanted to try it out.
I met with the couple in my friends studio and we got to know each other before the shoot. The girl is in her last year of medical school before she becomes a doctor and the guy is in school for becoming a hair dresser. It is an odd combination, but it works for them.
This photo shoot was just for fun and was more for experience so I could see if I enjoyed this type of photography since it is different than what I am used to shooting. I think I am going to do a few more free engagement sessions for people before I start charging people. There is a lot less pressure when you aren't getting paid for a shoot.
I don't like to pose people like most traditional photographers do during their photo sessions. During this shoot, I put some music on and just talked to them while I was taking pictures. We told jokes, I had them dance for a bit, and we had an overall good time during the shoot. I feel like if you pose people, you are removing their ability for them to be themselves.
