"Drottningholm"
The palace you see in this photograph is the palace where the Swedish royal family currently resides. The name “The Drottningholm Palace” is named after "Drottningholm", the name of the Island. Originally the palace was built at the end of the 16th century and was actually a summer house for the Swedish royal court for the most part of the 18th century. Now the family is staying here since 1981.
A special element that belongs to the palace are the gardens. King Gustav III has taken the initiative to design “The English gardens” which is right next to “The Baroque gardens”, one of the oldest gardens that have been designed for the palace. The enormous garden as a whole is inspired by the gardens of Versailles.
Fun fact: The Drottningholm Palace is the first Swedish listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, mainly because of the theater and the Chinese Pavillion that has been perfectly preserved since 1766.
