馃摲Photochallenge: Monochrome Monday

Hey there adventurers.

Welcome to another week. What a start to the week, even if I was up at 3am this morning to catch the Brazil Grand Prix. My boy Danny Ric actually managed to get his RedBull to finish the race, only missing the podium by half a second! His best finish at Interlagos. One more race and I have to swap the Red & Blue of RedBull for the Yellow & Black of Renault for 2019.. I'm going to look like a damn Bumble Bee!)

Anyway now a much more serious note for today's post. I thought I'd have a go at @photchallenge's Monday Challenge again.. which is Monochrome. I've decided today to share some photos from a trip we made to Poland, a few years back, and monochrome really does suit the sombre mood of the subject.

It's not often I've actually shared these particular photos, and again I was conflicted today. Like my visit to The Killing Fields in Cambodia, I found Auschwitz to be a deeply moving, somewhat disturbing and emotionally draining place. I often struggle internally whether to visit these places. It is "touristy" or a way to show respect and a stark reminder of the terrible things we do to each other... and hope that maybe one day we will stop. Like the Killing Fields, I took very few photos, none inside and none of the photos of people or personal belongings. While many visitors did, I took enough to serve as a personal reminder and then put away the camera to reflect on the events and pay my respects.

I am aware this may be a bit of a controversial one, and I my intent is one of respect and reflection with this post.

Also, the Photochallenge was purely the motivation for the topic which was to share my photos and thoughts so please disregard this post in terms of prizes. I'd also like to donate any earnings that this post makes to a worthy cause so please feel free to suggest in the comments.

Witnesses are a really important part of the Whaleshares community and you have the power to vote for those who will make a difference. Find the community that suits your interests, find out who those witnesses are and make sure you vote.

The witnesses I feel most strongly about are:

@deranged-witness

This account is run by @derangedvisions This is a guy who spends an enormous amount of time nurturing and helping the photographic community on Whaleshares, with his contests, The PixelPerfect program to teach people and just generally giving up his time to support budding photographers! Its never too much effort for him to give some advice or feedback.

You can find his Witness post HERE

@lexiwitness

This is the witness account run by @merej99 and @lexicon082 This crazy, wonderful couple really understand community engagement and go out of their way to help people connect in a meaningful way. They are generous with their time and advice on how to be better creators and curators and community always comes first. They love learning new things so they can help grow the community and grow with the community
