Hair (1979) by Milos Forman (REVIEW)

Inspired by an article I read on one of my local portals for the 50th anniversary of the birth of the hippie culture, I decided to once again look at the movie and make a retrospective.

So in 1989 (4 years after “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”) Oscar-winning actor Milos Forman is guilty of another legendary movie.

Hair is a movie (musical) that talks about a boy who due to the patriotism of his parents will be forced to go to the army and fight for the America’s flats in Vietnam War that began in 1965. But, intercepted by a group of hippies, he begins to doubt his desire to join the Vietnam War.

These rebels show him a new way of life. Life literally with sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, which the protagonist did not even hear before.

We know that hippies are fighting the American consumer society and are committed to love, peace and happiness, but the purpose of the movie is not just to show these characteristics of the hippie movement but also have a deep story about friendship, love, sacrifice etc.

In my opinion, this is an excellent movie that testifies to a culture with special understandings and ideas of the young and which will never die as long as there is anyone to tell it.
