Michigan: Proposal 1- Legalizing Recreational Marijuana

A bit about Michigan's current marijuana laws, my relationship with marijuana

Possession of Marijuana in Michigan is currently a misdemeanor and the cultivation or sale of it is a felony. Medical marijuana was legalized in Michigan in 2008, since then many marijuana advocates have been waiting for the opportunity to vote for its legalization. Even if the legalization passes, Federal Law still considers Marijuana to be a Class 1 Drug, this is the same Class as Heroin, Meth and LSD. Current Laws regarding Marijuana legality across the United States. I spent much of my teenage years and early 20s enjoying marijuana daily. About 11 years ago I stopped smoking it, if it is legalized I may start enjoying it occasionally again. I drink alcohol once or twice a month and aside from caffeine and nicotine, I do not use any other drugs. So I doubt it will ever be a daily habit again.

Michigan: Proposal 1 - Legalizing recreational marijuana

A proposed initiated law to authorize and legalize possession, use and cultivation of marijuana products by individuals who are at least 21 years of age and older, and commercial sales of marijuana through state-licensed retailers
This proposal would:
· Allow individuals 21 and older to purchase, possess and use marijuana and marijuana-infused edibles, and grow up to 12 marijuana plants for personal consumption.
· Impose a 10-ounce limit for marijuana kept at residences and require amounts over 2.5 ounces be secured in locked containers.
· Create a state licensing system for marijuana businesses and allow municipalities to ban or restrict them.
· Permit retail sales of marijuana and edibles subject to a 10% tax, dedicated to implementation costs, clinical trials, schools, roads, and municipalities where marijuana businesses are located.
· Change several current violations from crimes to civil infractions.

I will be voting yes personally, many people I know benefit from using marijuana medicinally, and our economy will benefit from the cash flow, and jobs it is sure to produce. As a Libertarian, I am pro states-rights, and don't believe in prosecuting and incarcerating people for victimless crimes. If it doesnt violate the NAP (non-aggression principle), it is likely none of my business.
