Friends after war? Things I saw on trip during my vacation at Overloon!

While Covid is still master of our world, we took a short vacation in our own country and went to a vacation parc in the town Overloon! The whole place turned out to be a war zone of the old days! So many monuments and respectful history in a breathe taking way! We visited the War museum (It was closed) but could only see a few things outside. We also followed a trail for Geo cashing wich took us to many crash sides of planes. Every single spot was full of respect no matter the country the fallen ones came from!

I have always been interested in the history of war and this vacation took me closer than I have been before. In the place we rented a house was a small war cemetary.

274 identified war victims are buried at the Overloon War Cemetery, including 1 Dutchman.

This small cemetary looked amazingly peaceful! It is very well taken care off and there was a special place where you could leave a message in a book if you wanted to after your visit! We were alone there and while it was close to a busy road, there was only silence and a soft blowing wind! Maybe it's just me being weird but, It felt like peace.

Can you be friends after war?

Captain Timmermans thought so! He wanted to create a more peaceful feeling and decided to act upon his feeling! He created a cemetary for German soldiers in the Netherlands! I also feel like every fallen soul deserves a peaceful resting place! I have seen many war cemetaries in my life but never one for Germans in my own country!

The military cemetery (Kriegsgräberstätte) is located in Ysselsteyn, in the province of Limburg close to the German border. The cemetery is the only German soldier cemetery in the Netherlands.
Here you find 85 fallen soldiers from the First World War and nearly 32,000 war dead from the Second World War! All german! 5000 graves don't have a name but have the text "Ein Deutscher Soldat" A german soldier, on them!

Maybe it was because of Covid, or perhaps we were just lucky, but we were alone on this cemetary as well. To be standing in the middle of almost 32,000 white crosses, no other people around, touched me deeper than I expected! Every hour, there were bells playing and we were there at the right time. Silence, birds, winds and bells. It made me swallow. So many dead souls, not from my own country, but from the country who started the world war 2! I agreed right there with Captain Timmermans! The whole cemetary looked well taken care off, even the buildings were amazing! When we left we found a marvelous surprise.

Peace path!

Next to the cemetary is a small piece of wood full with poetry, arts and many more things made by kids about war and peace! It sure makes you think about war times and what it does to a human being! I think this is the perfect visis after being surrounded by so many fallen soldiers.

I saw many more things and I will tell you all about when I come back from my second trip next week!
Yes, we are going away again! Life can be hard! LOL!
You all stay safe and remember to smile!
