In life, we should always desire to be better than we were yesterday. Those whom life give more too, are those who seek to be better than they were yesterday; those who seek to become more effective, not only for them but for the impact they can add or give to other people’s lives.

What motivates us is the desire to wake up every day and be better. I always say that a life without expectations would make things a little bit boring, don’t you think so too? What makes life interesting is when we have expectations and we go out of our ways to match those expectations... realistic expectations though.

It is important to set goals in life so we don’t become redundant and be left behind. Those who set goals move at faster pace than those who don’t. You don’t have to be living your life as it comes, rather to need to take it by the scruff of the neck and do things better. You cannot expect to do the same thing over and over again and then expect a different result. Life is about risk and only those who take the initiative to be better, set goals and impact others can become more effective in life.

You might say what if I set goals and I don’t match them, won’t I become disappointed? In life, you have to try something. Disappointments are part of life. I will also share with us later on how we can set realistic goals and match our goals in life. Often times many people try to start from the scratch by having unrealistic and unattainable goals. You need to know your limits and then build up gradually. I will discuss more about this later on.

Goal setting is important in becoming more effective in life, as I said earlier. What is a goal? Goal is actually an end that we are all trying to attain. Have you seen 22 men coming together on a soccer field to score the "goal" that will give them the edge in a football match? You need to have an end in sight and to become more effective and efficient, you must set goals. Imagine they are just kicking the football around without a clear goal in mind. It won't make it interesting.

Mistakes People Make.

These are the 4 major mistakes most people make in life:

1 Many People Don’t Set Goals:

A lot of people don’t set goals and it is a huge mistake on our part as humans. We expect everything to fall on our laps and that is not done especially with the way this life is going. Life also responds to pressure and with consistency and more determination, we can set goals and achieve them. Nothing is too difficult for a determined mind.

Without goals, you won’t and can’t get anywhere. Not everything happens just as we expect them to. We need to go the extra miles to achieve that extra result that will give us the extra edge. On the path to extra miles there are no traffic, since only few people ply that route; meaning what gives others the edge is going the extra miles and not many people ever try it.

What separate the rich from everyone else is, while they toil day and night, others were busy snoring or waiting for hands down. This only doesn't mean they don't sleep, it only means they are constantly on their toes. You have to set goal. A life without direction is a life that is waiting to be ordinary. Add the extra to your ordinary if you want to be better and become more effective.

2 Some Set Goals But They Don’t Set Enough Goals:

There are also some who set goals but those goals are never enough. Don’t become contented with what you have achieved a day before; rather seek to be better than you were.

Yesterday’s achievement is today’s mediocrity. Life move so fast that you can't hang around celebrating past achievements for too long. We have to keep building on it and not wait for life to pass us by by hanging on to past achievements.

What you achieved yesterday might not be enough again tomorrow, with the ever increasing ways that life changes. Never settle on becoming a yesterday’s champion; seek to top what you set yesterday and always go the extra. You will fail a few times and that's okay but never stop setting your goals and pushing yourself.

Life will happen, and situations will threaten us, expected and unexpected but when we set enough goals and we fall short, we can still know we are not too far off and we can know why it happened and then seek for ways to address it.

We need to set enough goals and also they have to be relevant. A lot of people set irrelevant goals; goals that adds nothing significant to their lives. Your goals has to be enough and relevant. Don’t try to play too safe because if your goals are what you can achieve in a day or a short time, then it is not a goal. You have to stretch. Set more goals and make them relevant ones.

...to be continued...
