What Are You Worth?

Would you be willing to pay more for something just because it is associated with "luxury?"

You probably said, no, yet research has shown most people will and do.

In fact, Payless Shoe Stores recently ran an experiment in which they took their normal cheap shoes (e.g. made out of plastic instead of leather) and set them up in an old Armani store. They held a launch event and sold $3,000 worth of shoes in the first few hours.

Markup above prices that would have been paid for the same shoes in a Payless shop?

1,800% !!

Now that's a lot of hype premium!

And this isn't an isolated group of over-paying luxury image seekers.

As this article states:

If you serve fast food on white tablecloths in a tony-looking restaurant, people sometimes think it’s haute cuisine.

The reason people are willing to pay these extra amounts over the going rate for something once they think it indicates "luxury" is really low self-esteem. They feel better about themselves when they associate themselves with expensive things that have a high perceived value, because by association it indicates they too have high value.

Here's the thing though, you already do have high value!

You are a completely original manifestation of life itself. There is no one else just like you. Your very presence in this world adds something to all our lives. You have intrinsic value.

No one can give that to you. Can you accept it from yourself?
