All You British People Out There Paying Council Tax - Why?

I live in the United Kingdom and the way local councils in my country behave these days makes me feel quite sick and angry. They have been operating as banks and bullies for many years. Yes local authorities perform some useful tasks like bin collections and maintaining the street lighting, although these services are somewhat diminished nowadays. But for the most part the purpose of having local councils set up all over the country is simply to collect money from citizens, and enforce fines for non-payment. It's a very sad state of affairs. As always people allow councils to get away with this sort of negative, corrupt behaviour because there's another episode of Game of Thrones to watch or a pub to get to.

One of the most vivid examples of councils money grabbing from citizens is provided by a tax called the council tax. For those that don't live in the UK we are told it is a tax for local services, including police and fire services. I have long had my suspicions about this tax and I believe now it is an unlawful tax conceived of by the political classes to generate more income for government. My concerns are further substantiated when you discover your local council is also registered as a business with Companies House. I understand that most of the money generated for my local council ends up in a bank account held by Citibank.

The reason I say this is an unlawful tax is because many so called laws are passed by our Parliament which are called statutes or Acts of Parliament. I am slowly coming round to the belief that these statutes can not be applied in general to the masses, unless the individual consents to abiding by the statute. Unlike with the Common Law which are indeed laws that have general application and should be complied with by all of us. Statutes appear to be a tool used by the political class very often to the detriment of the citizen. The Local Government Finance Act 1992 which gave us the council tax levy is an example of a so called law that I have serious doubts about, I'm not sure it's even legally enforceable despite councils up and down the country using it to threaten and scare people into paying the tax, some times even imprisoning people for non-payment.

For many years now a growing number of dissidents to the tax have emerged and they have had varying degrees of success fighting this tax and determining its lawfulness. I am not here to tell you to not pay your council tax. What I am saying is that council tax is a legally dubious imposition and I have serious concerns whether citizens should be paying it at all. Now, I know that many people will be worried and probably frightened at the prospect of not paying their council tax and challenging its legitimacy but that is exactly what the state relies on, they want an ignorant and frightened population. You can do anything then, you can get away with anything. This is what they rely on. So I say to you don't be frightened, don't be fooled and do some research of your own. Make your own mind up.

For any of you brave enough to challenge this tax with your own council I have provided a three letter step by step process you may wish to consider. Some people might already be familiar with similar three letter processes for debts, which have proven very successful. Clearly council tax is different but the Notices contained in the guide and template letters I have provided are also legally valid. The guide has been provided by a Facebook group called Council Tax and Many More Government Acts are Unlawful - Let's Fight Back.
