[TIL-5] A wearable device that can hear the words you say in your head

harmonyPosted for Everyone to comment on, 5 years ago

MIT has created a device that listens to the voice inside your head and follows unspoken commands e.g when you look at the screen and you think of scrolling down or up, the screen does the action as well.

It uses electrodes to read brain activity then a machine learning system matches the signal with words. More of the details here.

So far, Alter Ego recognizes about 100 words and is 92% accurate.

Eventually the researchers say it will be able to understand entire conversations. People with vocal disabilities could benefit from the system and it could have military applications, allowing soldiers to communicate silently with each other.

Everything looks promising but would you also like a machine that listens to your brain?

Till next time,
