Can Pepper Plants Self-Sow?

papa-pepperPosted for Everyone to comment on, 3 years ago

My garden says "Yes!"

I've heard people swear up and down that it's impossible, but I know better than that. In fact, heading back to the pre-domestication of the pepper plants, they kind of had to self-sow or go extinct, you know?

Anyway, in our garden, we've got lots of volunteer pepper plants that have sprouted up on their own, including an entire patch of Cayenne Peppers. In the tropics and subtropics, peppers are actually perennials, and can continue growing for years. For this reason, we also enjoy bringing some inside each winter and growing them for multiple years.
