Manchester United hosted stubborn Burnley and they managed to coast through after meeting resistance from brilliant Burnley. Burnley proved to be a thorn in the flesh of United and did everything right until a few moments of genius dented their hope of getting a draw from the game.

Burnley thought they had taken the lead just after 14 seconds when a long pass found Chris Wood. Henderson, who started in goal mistimed his punch and Wood headed the ball into the back of the net. The linesman flagged for offside, much to the relief of Manchester United who was hoping to take advantage to close the gap on City to 8 points with a win.

There was not so much to separate the two sides on the day and the first half ended with 0-0. The second half started and United raced through on goal in the 48th minute after skipping a challenge. He was able to produce a lovely low cross into the box which Fernandes expertly run over without touch to deceive the defence. The ball fell to Greenwood who brilliantly produced a lovely shot to register the first goal of the game.

The lead didn't last more than 2 minutes after a brilliant corner found Tarkowski whose lovely header found the back of the net from close range to draw his side level, 1-1. He brilliantly beat Harry Maguire to the ball and he headed straight home.

The game looked destined for a draw but in the 84th minute, Greenwood delivered the goods. Pogba found him at the edge of the box and Greenwood decided to try an audacious effort from that far out and the shot was deflected into the back of the net. It was counted for him as a goal because his initial effort was heading goal-ward. United took the lead for the second time in the game, 2-1.

United killed the game off in the 3rd minute of the 4 minutes added time when Cavani was played into space. He brilliantly got the ball and sprayed it over to Greenwood who was lurking on the side. Greenwood wasted no time and found Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes carefully played the ball into the path of the birthday boy; Donny Van De Beek who laid a pass into the path of Edison Cavani to make it 3-1. Cavani has now registered his 10th goal of the season for United becoming the first player to don the number 7 shirt to score 10 goals ever since Cristiano Ronaldo.

United would be hoping for a miracle after cutting the gap to 8 points with 6 games to go if they are to win the league because as it is, City are in the best position to win the league and it looks impossible to see them throw it away.
