What a game it was for Southampton who fought back twice before crowning their efforts with the last goal to dent the hope of Tottenham temporarily in breaking into the top 4. Tottenham still has so many outstanding matches to play but it would have been nice for them to win this and give themselves a better shot of finishing the season well. This would be a huge setback for Antonio Conte's men and they have it all to do in their next match to get them back on track because another loss would sense disaster waiting to happen for the team.

Bednarek's own goal and Son's goal gave Tottenham the 2 goals on the night but Southampton fought back through Broja, Elyounoussi and Adams to claim the 3 points of the game in an epic encounter. Southampton would be delighted with the 3 points especially being away from home and it's a huge disappointment for the Spurs fan on their home turf.

Tottenham got the ball rolling in the 18th minute after a brilliant team move that involves Lucas Moura and Hojbjerg. Lucas found Hojbjerg inside the box and his one time pass to pick out Son was intercepted by Bednarek who was unlucky to guide the ball into the back of his net. Replay showed that he got the touch and not Son, so it went down as an own goal.

A poor clearance from Ben Davies allowed Southampton to restore the parity in the 23rd minute as Spurs lead only lasted 5 minutes. Southampton pounced on this error and Romain Perraud was clever with his cut-back into the box which allowed Broja to steer the ball into the back of the net cleanly and sweetly too.

Southampton felt hard done by shortly before Tottenham scored the second goal because they had a man down due to a challenge from Emerson Royal and the referee didn't stop the play. Tottenham were smart enough to continue the play and a brilliant delivery into the box from Lucas perfectly picked out Son who wasted no time in guiding the ball into the back of the net in the 70th minute. It was a perfect response from Spurs at that time before Southampton turned the game on its head.

Tottenham's lead lasted just 10 minutes after a brilliant delivery into the box from Ward-Prowse found Elyounoussi who produced a lovely header to draw his side level, with Hugo Lloris unable to do anything about it. It was a wonderful header and perfectly timed too.

Southampton produced a nearly identical goal to their 2nd goal in the 82nd minute, just 2 minutes after drawing level. Tottenham were caught out yet again to the quality of delivery from Ward-Prowse. His delivery again perfectly came to Adams this time, and he didn't have to stress himself much other than steering his header into the back of the net to win the game for Southampton. 2 amazing assists from Ward-Prowse and they were identical which shows his talent on the ball. His deliveries and the accuracy of his freekicks cannot be overemphasized because they were always intentional, never a fluke.

Southampton moved to 10th place, just 2 points behind Brighton having played a game more and Tottenham sits in 7th place, just 3 points behind Manchester United who has a game at hand too but Tottenham has 3 outstanding games to play. They would do well to win all 3 or at least 2 and then draw 1 to give themselves a fighting chance for the top 4.

Conte would have to go back to the drawing board and reshuffle his pack to banish the horror of this defeat especially with his defence line being found out thrice on the night but what a night it was for Southampton. I was expecting Tottenham to win this but they gave them a fight for it. With this self-belief after beating Tottenham, I wouldn't put it past them to beat Manchester United at the weekend as well.
