The problem hasn't gone away and a change of coach still isn't helping United's course as it is evident with several of their lacklustre performances especially against a team they should be beating on paper. We can see how terrible they were against Norwich and now against another bottom team, Newcastle United. Every team seem to be a prime Barcelona when they play against Manchester United and even Ralf Rangnick is looking helpless to salvage United's course.

Saint-Maximin gave Newcastle United the lead in front of their home fans before Edison Cavani managed to salvage the little pride this United side have left. De Gea also turned up for this under par United team but Newcastle United would feel unlucky not to have won because they did everything right and would have deserved to win this game. United missed their opportunity to move into 5th place despite not playing football for 2 weeks. Whatever excuse they have for failing to play at their best shows there are deeper problems to this United side than onlookers can see from the surface.

It didn't take Newcastle too long before showing Manchester United they meant business and who else to show his skills better than Saint-Maximin who was fed just outside the box and he dazzled his way into the box before firing the ball into the back of the net sensationally, leaving David Dr Gea rooted to the spot in the 7th minute. Jonjo Shelvy should have doubled the lead shortly after the goal after he broke through, ran the length of the field and decided to have a shot at the goal which De Gea was able to save.

Newcastle United got another goal after Saint-Maximin dazzled with his feet yet again and found Callum Wilson inside the box. He guided the ball into the back of the net but the linesman flagged him for offside.

United produced nothing of worth in the first half despite all the available resources and the wealth of abundance in players that they have. Newcastle United started the second half as they did the first but this time around Saint-Maximin was denied by De Gea when he looked destined to score after he was found inside the box. His little touch was stopped by De Gea's reflect who did everything right to keep Manchester United in the game.

United finally had a chance of their own after Marcus Rashford decided to have a long-range strike at goal which the goalkeeper managed to save for a corner kick. Not long after, Sancho managed to pick out Edison Cavani inside the box but he couldn't steer his effort on target as he dragged his effort wide. Cavani got his second change again in the 71st minute after Diogo Dalot picked him out inside the box yet again and his initial strike was blocked off by the defender but Cavani acted swiftly with the rebound and managed to get the ball to roll off his shin into the back of the net to drag Manchester United level.

Newcastle United should have snatched the victory late on after Murphy's curling effort beautifully beat De Gea but not the post as it cannon off the post into the path of Almiron who gathered the ball and tried to pick the top right corner of the post but David Dr Gea did what he knew how to do best; save impossible effort that was destined for the net just to keep Manchester United leaving Saint James' Park with a point at least.

The game ended 1-1 and Manchester United should be ashamed of their performance and that's no disrespect to Newcastle United but with the quality of players both teams have, Manchester United should be winning games like this. Newcastle United showed a spirited performance and if they can build on this, they might beat the drop.
