This is a fried crispy sweet. I felt some nostalgia for sweets I haven't eaten in years so I got this recipe from mom. It's simple and quick to make. There are many variations of the recipe online.
This ended up being 3 big plates of krostule and they are a little heavy on stomach from frying, so I recommend making half of the recipe if only for 1 or 2 people. And use a smaller pot then for less oil.

• 1 big egg (or 2 small)
• 200g-250g flour (start with 200g add more if neccessary)
• 1 tablespoon rakija (brandy) (or rum)
• 1 tablespoon rum
• 1 teaspoon sugar
• Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar/rum
• confectioners sugar for topping after done.
• 2 tablespoons melted margarine (or butter or oil)
• Oil for frying
• Optional: try with some jam instead of sugar. It's hard for me to find sugar powder that I like, but I love all kinds of jams.

Mix all of the ingredients. Do not use whisks on an electronic mixer, as it can break the mixer. The dough consistency is more like for pizza and even thicker, so use spirals like in the photo below or mix by hand. Finish the dough by hand, kneading it for about a minute. It should be semi hard.

Roll the dough thinly (5mm approx) and use a cookie cutter or a knufe to cut strips. Cut lines in the middle of strips with a knife and use that to twist the dough. (Take the top and pull gently through the hole). Or you can cut squares or triangles instead.

Fry on medium/high temperature until golden in color. High temperature makes them crispier, but watch out not to burn them. I kept switching between the temperatures for most convenience. Also its better for the dough to be submerged in oil, so use a smaller pot. I used big as that's what I had avaible at the moment.

Once they're done, place them on some paper towels for less oil. Sprinkle with icing sugar by preference.

Serve warm ^^
