In order to have a full understanding of this theme, i will first define a call as a 'an act of A beckoning or summoning.' God calls us at different times for various reasons. For every call, there must be an answer and sometimes a corresponding action/response.

God calls us in different ways, as a Christian you must be sensitive enough to identify this call and to do justice to it by responding. when he calls us to do a particular task, he knows we can handle it. He can't call us to a task that is beyond our capacity.

When God calls you to do something for him, he knows that nobody else can do it satisfactorily except you. You must uderstand that a response to him could make all the difference in the world. when we say no to God, the work will remain undone.

Lets study the two personalities in the bible. One who responded to God's call and the blessings that followed and the other who bluntly refused and the punishment that followed.

Abraham Responds to God's Call.

Genesis 12:1

Now Yahweh said to Abram, “Leave your country, and your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you.'

Before now he was called Abram. The bible makes us understand that he didn't utter a word against the call. he humbly obeyed and gathered his family to leave the land to another.

Genesis 12:5

Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother’s son, all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they went to go into the land of Canaan. They entered into the land of Canaan.

A look at verses 2 and 3 of Genesis 12, reveals all the blessings that came with a single call. Just by migrating to another land, he inherited all those blessings. Today, he is one of the top personalities in the bible.

A peep at Jonah's response shows that he evaded God's presence in order avoid going to Nineveh to preach. Jonah 1 verses 1 and 2 talks about the call that came from Yaweh to Jonah. But instead, he boarded a ship going Tarshish to flee from Yaweh. God did not take it lightly with him and sent a fish to swallow him.

Jonah 1:17

Yahweh prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

He had to repent in the belly's fish. The bible affirms that God heard his prayers and commanded the fish to release Jonah. After which he finally agreed to go preach in the city of Nineveh. There was a thousand repented souls and God revoked his anger from them.

A popular song says

God wants to use me to fulfill his promise, he knows about me before he calls me, his promises are sure for me in his presence, he has called me..... i won't complain!!

How often do you respond to his call?
Incase you may be confused in regards to identifying his call, here are a few ways to help you.

How can you identify his call?

  • Realize that God has a call for every one.
  • Spend time in solitude in the scriptures in order to know Jesus better.
  • Prayer will help you discover God's call and give you the needed courage to go through with it.
    Untill next time, stay tuned
