Don't worry... flash fiction + writing prompt

merej99Posted for Everyone to comment on, 5 years ago3 min read

One of the things that I really appreciate about this writing exercise is the fact that it's getting me to write again. The free-flow of words from a simple prompt has really reinforced the idea that I can write every day. With the end of the Community Engagement Challenge on near horizon, I hope to continue this exercise because it has jumpstarted the creative side again.

Unfortunately, I didn't have anyone drop a first and last line so I just plucked a couple of ideas inspired by what was on TV.

If you're up for an interesting writing challenge, give it a try!

Here's how to play!

Using the given writing prompt...

  • Write a flash fiction piece. Try for less than 500 words.
  • It needs to begin with Don't worry...
  • It needs to end with Close your eyes.
  • You may find your own photo prompt! You don't have to use the one I've selected above.

What you write in between those two lines is entirely up to you.

Would you like to play too?

"Don't worry," she whispered in his ear. She knew no one could hear or see her, but she always felt better about her job when she reassured her passengers.
The guests at the dinner table would never know they had a guardian in their midst, nor would they have any idea that their loved one was about to take a journey.

Like an alarm telling her it was time, she felt the vibration in her wings and knew it was time to take him home.
Stretching out her wings, she enveloped him with a quiet, loving embrace.

"Fear not," she assured him. She felt his body tense as his spirit began to peel away from the organic vessel. "You're safe now. I've got you. Now, close your eyes."
