And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get behind me, Satan, for it written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shall Thou serve. - Luke 4:8

The Book of Luke chapter 4 gives us an account of the Temptation of Jesus.

Being filled with the Holy Ghost, returned to Jordan and was led by that same Spirit into the wilderness, After Jesus has fasted for forty days and was hungry, then the devil came.

After so much spiritual exercise, fasting and praying, as he prepared for spiritual enablement, this text (Luke 4) shows us the account of the Temptation of Jesus by the devil.

There's no one who has fasted for forty days and will not be afterwards, hungered or desire a consumable meal or food.

When the flesh is weak, when we are at our weekest point, when the body desires something... then comes the devil, the accuser of brethren, for he only comes to steal and destroy.

Jesus isn't a magician. All his Miracles performed by him while on earth were aimed towards the promotion of the Gospel, the advancement of the Kingdom of God AS AN EVIDENCE or means of manifestation of God's divine power.

I can notice a conflict, a very strong disagreement between Jesus' self will and God's will. The devil was trying to manipulate the former, to make Jesus fall. But Jesus was determined, for he was resolute to his purpose.

Jesus knew his purpose, that he was sent by the Father to this world, not to fulfill his will but that of him who sent him.

"Command this stone to become bread" is absolutely within Jesus' jurisdiction, but he doesn't abuse power as I said before.

In the third temptation, it's evident that the devil knows the Bible by quoting Psalm 91 -" The angels will guide over you... ".

But here's the key point, Jesus also gained victory over the devil, by using that same Word of God. His responses are sourced from the Scriptures, quoting" It's written... ".

There are a lot that Jesus is teaching us through this story. We must know God's Word and by fully equipped with this Spiritual Armour.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD. (Ephesian 6)

We most be resolute and deeply rooted in him, overcoming temptations by his power and not yielding to sin or other works of the devil.

Excessive crave for power, addiction for recognition, temptations, greed, love of money, excessive crave for wealth... and so on displeases God, and Jesus though this account teaches us how to steer clear of them, stay strong and submit to the will of God.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
