My Year 2018: Recap with Achievements and Failures "Steep Sloped Moments"

mickyPosted for Everyone to comment on, 5 years ago6 min read

2018 was an eventful year for me coupled with all activities I engaged myself with this year, It will be quite immodest if I fail to ponder on how the year has been for me. I am grateful to the organizers of this amazing contest.
The Theme of My 2018 is "Steep Sloped Moments"

I chose the theme "Steep Sloped Moments" because I experienced a very high pitched resonating year at the first quarter of the year, dull and gloomy season for the second and partly third quarter and again a very high level of awesomeness at the last quarter of the year. Hmmm...What a year!

ACHIEVEMENTS

A. SUCCESSFUL MEETUPS ORGANIZED AND NETWORKS ESTABLISHED

On 17th January, 2018 my team of Steemians featuring @austinebizzy and @nancy007 all prepared for our first meet up in Owerri city of South Eastern Nigeria. It was very challenging organizing the event before to the glory of God, we succeeded in it. We are grateful to Steem Inc for the opportunity to mine with our brains and earn bucks and we decided to empower some youths in our community.

Following the success of our Meetup at Owerri, Southeast Nigeria, on February 17th, we organize the very second meet up in Northern Nigeria and the first meet up in Niger State, North central Nigeria. @iconnelly championed and inspired it and it had in attendance notable community builders such as; @inspiredgideon1, @jesse12, @nancy007, @izzrael, @owen and some other newbies then.

B. ATTENDED SECOND COINFEST EVENT

I grew my network in the Cryptosphere and attended events offline. I met @tojukaka and @sushie and some other Steemians there. I also got to learn some theories about Blockchain during the event.

C. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND CHARITY

@tarekadam organized a contest for charity work following the completion of the Islamic Ramadan fast to give alms to the less fortunate. I am a Christian but I went on to participate in the contest. I lived with Muslims most times in my life and I am very well accustomed to how life in the Northern part of Nigeria is like. I won in the contest alongside some other Steemians and together with @inspiredgideon1 and @nancy007, we visited an Orphanage home in Minna, North central Nigeria and gave food items to the Children living there.

That's me on a photo pose with the food items to be donated. I actually first visited the Orphans during my birthday last year on 19th December, 2017 and I hope to visit them again if I get the resources.

@inspiredgideon1 and I visited a public school in Minna and we donated School uniforms and Sandals to Pupils without any and those with wornout Uniforms and Sandals were replaced. @inspiredgideon1 got the funds from donors and I assisted him as a volunteer.

D. FULLY FUNDED SCHOLARSHIP FOR INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

I lost track in my career choice and pathways in the year 2016-17 and I was just at a crossroad in making the right choice on what to do. Despite the Crypto awareness I had and the boom in 2017, I still felt bittered and weary about the future but luckily, I stumbled on opportunities on Space Science which is in line with my discipline and like the proverbial Phoenix bird, I rose from my ash.
I was offered a fully funded Scholarship to attend an international Space event in my nations capital city with international delegates in attendance. I brainstormed and networked very well.
Of course, I discussed Blockchain with the delegates.

E. INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION FROM UNITED NATIONS PARTNERING BODY

IMG_20181203_202422_011.JPG

I usually apply and pitch to different bodies once I feel I meet the requirements and it is worth the try.
Regrets mails filled my inbox and spam box frequently and it really hurts me and discourages me.

Luckily, I just got a mail on the first of December from Global Peace Chain decorating me as a "Peace Ambassador".
I couldn't believe it! Amazing!!!

I also got another invitation to attend a Space Science event at Mauritius for the 2nd Africa Space Generation Advisory workshop at Port Louis, Mauritius.
My PowerPoint slide is ready but the scholarship is a partially funded type. Hoping to get the full funds for it.

F. MASTERS ADMISSION SUCCESSFUL

I have applied for Masters degree on three occasions following the completion of my Bachelors program. I was denied the two times I applied but I miraculously got the third trial.

G. LOVE FOUND

Yeah!...I found love this year during a Steem meet up at Owerri, we got talking afterwards and the rest is history now...So Steem didn't just paved way for folks like me financially but emotionally too it did and I am grateful.

FAILURES

A. ORGANIZATION CRUMBLE

I had started an NGO at the first quarter of the year with great minds like @inspiredgideon1, @iconnelly, @nancy007, @izzrael and @jesse12
The Organization is called @steemminna and the very beginning had a great pace but inadequate funding crippled it.
We hope to get back on track and offer more aid to the less privilege through our resources pulled from the Blockchain.

B. SCHOLARSHIP DENIAL

I tried lots of foreign schools and scholarships but sadly none worked out so far in 2018. I am hoping for the very best in my endeavours in 2019.

C. CRYPTO BEAR BARRED MY EARNINGS FROM SOARING

I couldn't really manage my Crypto portfolios very well following the bearish market. I lost lots of money, got scammed of some huge amount from my crypto and fiat bank accounts, experienced a sharp drop in my Crypto savings and investments.
Lost some passwords. Ouch!!!...it was just too much to bear.

In summary, the year 2018 was a Steep Sloped Moment...
