friendly locals can鈥檛 wait to know you in guangxhou鈥檚 happening nightlife

Guangzhou City, China

Without the splendor or glam of Shanghai or Beijing, Guangzhou is still a magnificent and massively laid out city with some mind blowing infrastructure. I think 3rd largest city in the country of 1.3 billion, small it is not. Take the tower for instance. It鈥檚 got to be this big to cover radio and TV for just 1 city, and it鈥檚 one of the tallest freestanding structures on the planet. On arrival practically in the city centre, we saw a crazy guy flying around up there too ...

how is that a good idea

The company (HP) arranged the evening entertainment.

Whole reason I was there was for Hewlett-Packard. Those guys started something from a shed back in the day, but it wasn't when I joined half a century later. I don't mind saying it because I was lied to on being employed, had my salary reduced by 1/3rd 2 months after signing up, then spent the next 12 months or more trying to escape. Oh did I do some great work on the way however, had a guy they'd ignored 2 years who had a Telco in Thailand with $900k USD waiting to be collected. So I off I went and helped the sales guy do just that, new TEMIP NMS proposal was architectured especially by me. Also behind the scenes at global architecture level, in the middle of 3 random teams with 3 different products that had been told to 'work out 1 solution' .... the place was a mess of the highest magnitude at the time, hopefully it鈥檚 settled down now if you鈥檙e there and reading this! You think Blockchain community forks are bad? They're just to me mimic of what I've seen in corporate land - every manager out to cut budget from every other manager for his dept. and then also competing to sell the same products to the same clients under different business unit guises competing against one another to hit bonuses. Madness and political mayhem. Don't know about today, maybe they cleaned up a little?

Chicken Feet

But you did treat us to some seriously interesting restaurants ... here are chicken feet, prepared for an emperor. These are actually delicious and all that sticky glutinous gooy meat, that's actually packed with nutrients our human body loves. You just pick it up and pop the whole thing in and sort of suck on it and chew, then spit out the bony bits.

I'd go back to IBM, much more interesting work environment and freedom and apply and play or move to work with any technology, if you just requested it right. Then I heard they also just became 'GS' or a 'Global Services' company too now? Or did i just forget i made my own corporation, semi-decentralized it, so i don't have to worry about that stuff anymore?

Dunno, had a blast in Guangzhou though. Once we'd found the right few nightspots, there was non-stop entertainment, good drinks and prices, no rip-offs, no girls/hookers, only attractive, smart and intelligent regulars and locals male and female. It was but a brief trip (why didn't you take us to Disneyland, instead of watching bears and lions be tortured, HP? - coming up)

this gal would not stop talking as i recall, but i didn't mind

Corporate idea of 'entertainment'

Well done HP Guongzhou on this trip my hard work is funding this travesty of animal cruelty you bought me to see, thanks for the honor and privilege - have a heavily doped up lioness, i'll drop her at the office so staff can stroke her for a few hours but when she wakes up, your team takes over! This was something like life for me at HP. But seriously they also took us to see this.

I never got to the bottom of how HP cocked up so bad to bring us to this circus horror show

Despite taking pleasure in the travel and sightseeing, I was a lot more motivated to get from there after this trip in fact, and I did, landing myself in an even worse position ... more on that another time!
