Hi Bloggers,

Something I have watched recently is a docu-series on an area in Humboldt County called 'Murder Mountain'.

I recently visited this area on my travels along the West Coast of the USA and stopped over in this well known cannabis growing area.

The docu-series focussed on the transformation of Humboldt County as a well-known marijuana growing area in the US and its change from hippy weed growers to hardened criminal growers. With this also comes the seriousness of violent crimes and the fact that there are more missing persons in Humboldt County than anywhere else in California.

Most growers in the area where making a lot of money from illegal operations and were easily able to hide in the heavily forested country-side. With the legalisation of cannabis in California, many small growers are being forced out and the grey area of the law regarding medicinal marijuana growing is no longer there. Law enforcement are now shutting down farms that do not have permits. Apparently there are 15,000 illegal growers in this county!

The series also focused on the death of a young man over a grower not wanting to pay this guy who worked for him and the lengths that investigators went to find his body and what happened.

It was an interesting watch and gave some great background of the cannabis growing history in the area and the changes that are happening with the passing of Proposition 64.

Take a look if you are interested.

Thanks for reading.
