馃悵 Pollen Baskets

This photo depicts how a worker bee packs the pollen on their "pollen baskets" to bring back to the hive for feeding the young. Pollen has enough moisture in it so that it can be formed into these 'balls' that are attached to hooks own their legs. Another thing to point out is you can see a balding spot on her thorax. As bees go down into blooming flowers to retrieve pollen, they actually wear the hair of the thorax. You can often tell older field bees because they have no hair left on their thorax.
