Are icicles good for you?

Have you ever licked an icicle? Of course we all have. At least back when we were kids. This is the idea of the above comic I created yesterday. The theme of the Artstorm contest was "Winter Picnic" and Ausra had already drawn her version.

Before she actually began we were debating about possible scenarios. Ausra suggested icicles so I didn't want to steal her idea. But since she used a different setting with hot tea and wormburgers, I thought icicles would indeed be fun to draw.

While watching a crime story on TV, I was sitting in my armchair, took my pocket notebook and a pen and began drawing. For a while I didn't know if orientation should be portrait or landscape. I find portrait orientation sometimes more interesting and unexpected. But this time I settled for a landscape mode.

I first made a frame, wrote my name and yesterday's date. Then I made Pinky's head with her mouth open and her tongue sticking out. It was easy to draw an icicle next to the tongue but the challenge was hooves. I had to make them long enough, bent and grabbing the icicle.

Usually my Pinky is in a standing position but this time I wanted to draw her kneeling. While I was drawing Pinky's body, I noticed that she is leaning backwards a little. Kind of uncomfortable, I know, but what do you do... She was holding another icicle in her right hand to show how much she is enjoying the process.

Once I had Pinky figured out, the rest was easy. One by one all the gang appeared with icicles. And Victor... Victor HAD to do something unusual. Maybe like holding 8 icicles in each of his legs!

Then came the dialogue. Pinky, of course needs to take educational stance and say that the guys need to be careful and not to rush because the icicles are cold. Notice I wrote POPSICLES because I was sure it meant what they are licking. Only today I double checked the translation... I guess Pinky needs to learn proper English before teaching others...

Betsy likes nectar so her icicle isn't sweet enough. Victor has 8 icicles so he will stay here for a while. Cornelius and Dietrich are discussing who collected that many icicles. And Spiky wants to pee...
