Our Pets That Are Still Alive, And Dover

This is for the call from the @animal-lover pod to see our pets. We just put Dovey-Doo down a little while ago so we are going to include him as well because he is still alive in our hearts.

The Cats

That's Tubs McGubs on the left and Skins McGinns on the right. That was a few weeks ago when there was a coat left on the deep freeze beside the grow light and this next one is shortly after we got them. Gubs is on the bottom again.

Blue - The Heir

Blue is the best dog I have ever had. He's also the worst but it's not his fault. He's a hound. This is when we first had him. I know because that was the collar that he came with and we changed that out pretty quick when we figured out how quickly he could slip it and run to a neighbour's house and eat their garbage.

This one was from 2015 when he drove the bus that took us to BC. It was his dream to be a bus driver so who are we to crush a boy's dream? Note the anti-slip and the training shock collar. We could not take a chance with him running away while we were driving across the country and we also needed a way to get his attention when he got too close to the centre line or the ditch.

This is Blue now, well just before the Solstice holiday, and before he pulled one of his drainage tubes out and ate it.

And now for Dover - The Spare

Dovey-Doo came to us not long after we moved here and was in pretty bad shape when we got him from the BCSPCA. He was terribly obese and had several infections that kept him at the vet clinic for a while. He also showed signs of physical abuse for a long time. He was head shy and sometimes if you moved too fast towards him he would yelp and cower, even though nobody touched him. It never fully went away but it did subside over the years. He got to the point where he was acting like a real dog and being affectionate and everything.

This was his first day with us.

I would be remiss if I didn't show him in the best light. It's good to have a photographer in the family. I had never thought about lighting before.

Oh, and the time he guarded his kill.
image.png
This was after he ran away in the mountains for eight days and we thought he had been eaten by a bear. Note the pine tar all over the side of him.

And this is about a week or so before he had his neurological event or whatever it was. For a couch potato he sure did have a lot of adventures. Many of them were just costume adventures but he had some real ones, that's for sure.

So long, Dovey. Thanks for being our friend for a few years. You weren't a good dog but you sure tried to be a good friend with your limited resources. We will all miss you.
