About 9 years ago I attended a wise women gathering in Ireland. It was the first time that I was leaving my daughter's side and it was a big moment for me. She was 1 and a half and would spend the afternoon hanging out with her papa. I was attending the gathering with some my friends from the anarchy parenting group I was a part of.

It was open to both women and men, but my partner didn't want to go, so off I went. I was so excited but also a little apprehensive about leaving my daughter, even though I knew she was in good hands.

This event really changed my life!

A woman I knew had written a book, which was about the conversations she had with some wise women In Ireland, she travelled around the country to meet them and some of those women were going to be at this event. They were herbalists, activists, elders, mothers and they had so much wisdom to share.

There were various workshops you could attend and I attended one, led by a women who holds ceremonies around the Celtic festivals. Something That I was really passionate about. During a break in the event I met up with some of my friends and we shared what we learnt.

One thing led onto another and I began talking about this amazing Irish Woman called Maureen Concannon, who had written a book called the Sacred Whore, that I was reading at the time. The book is all about the Sheela Na Gig's in and around Ireland and how the real history of Ireland is being withheld from us.

At this point a really elegant woman came towards us and asked if we all lived locally. She then went on to say, how she was involved in holding women's circles in Dublin and that we should create one for Cork. She introduced herself, and her name was Maureen Concannon, I was gobsmacked, she was standing right next to me telling us how she had written a book called the Sacred Whore.

We all looked at one another and knew, that we were, l where we needed to be at that very moment.

We exchanged no.s and after me and my friends created our Wild Womens Circle Maureen came to visit us and took us on a guided meditation to connect with Sheela. She also gifted us with some Shelia Cards that she has created with a friend.

These cards are the only cards that I have ever worked with. I like to just draw one when I need some guidance in my life. The other day I picked them up and decided that I could do with just that, as I have been feeling overwhelmed.

As I opened the packet one fell out, for one second I wondered if that was the card for me, but decided that I would like my hands to touch the pack before I choose one. So I picked it up and added it to the rest. I played with them for a while and then, I chose one.

New Beginnings, the card that had fallen on the floor, seems I should have went with my gut instinct to chose that one. But either way that was the card for me.
So what does it say.

I am indeed starting a new chapter of my life, a rebirth and I have begun working on something that is very new to me, something that I will share more about in the next few weeks, as it is too early yet to give anything away.

These cards have always been a wonderful guide for me and I love that they connect me to my homeland no matter where I am. I will write about Sheela Na Gig another time. But for now I am calling it a night, as my girls need me.

So here's to new beginnings for us all!
