It is just one year since I last was 'ere.
The clouds have moved ten feet away from where
They used to hang. I can barely touch it.
But Dave has grown shorter than his last feet.

Quiet is more at home now. It never was.
The weeds are full grown and now prepped for wars.
Graffito on the fence - 'tis not my home;
I halt my steps - there goes that trav'ler's gnome.

The sun smiles down at me and I smile back,
He urges me on against a dog's bark.
Ten seconds more and he is till dawn gone.
I wait for mother to come see her son.

Dave said nothing 'bout father's coming wake,
And I could not see through mother dark veil.
The sun's hiding behind the clouds. I boil;
As home without father will be a toil.
